Benefits of Preplanning
Lets Your Wishes Be Known
The death of a loved one often brings about unwarranted stress and turmoil among families. One family member wants one thing, while another family member wants something different. By planning ahead, you help prevent those disagreements by letting your family know what your wishes are and how you want your funeral service to be carried out and your business handled.
Peace of Mind
Our staff guarantees we will carry out the arrangements you want, just as you directed. Once the plans have been arranged, you and your family can rest easy knowing that at the time of death, those uncomfortable decisions have been made. In a time when a family should be able to easily grieve, preplanning allows for that to happen.
Flexible Funding Options
When you preplan your funeral arrangements, there are more options when it comes to funding the funeral. A preneed insurance policy, life insurance policy, or other payment options can all be arranged before the time of death. At the time of death, services must be paid in full, so having options ahead of time can also reduce other stress related to losing someone.
Relieves The Burden From Family
Following the death of a loved one, there are more than 150 decisions that have to be made within the first day or two following the death. Those stressful decisions on top of the stress of grieving a loss can be eliminated by arranging your final wishes ahead of time. If those decisions are made, your loved ones aren’t left wondering what you would have wanted and how they should proceed with funeral plans. With those decisions out of the way, your loved one can begin the healing process sooner.
Common Questions about Preplanning
What steps are involved in prearranging a funeral?
Prearranging a funeral is easier than you might think. The first step is simply to meet with one of our pre-planning specialists to discuss your wishes and explore the options available. We'll help you consider burial or cremation, service preferences, merchandise selections, and associated costs.
You can also explore options for funding your arrangements in advance, although prepayment is not required.
There's no pressure to make every decision at once. Our goal is to help you create a plan that reflects your wishes and provides peace of mind for you and your family.
What information do I need to prearrange a funeral?
It's helpful to have some basic personal information available, such as your full name, date of birth, marital status, parents' names, and other details that may be needed for future arrangements.
You may also want to consider any personal wishes, family traditions, cemetery preferences, or special requests you would like included in your arrangements.
Don't worry if you don't have all the information or haven't made these decisions yet. Our pre-planning specialists will walk you through everything and help you gather the details along the way.
Do I have to pay in advance?
No. Pre-planning simply allows you to document your wishes and make important decisions in advance without any financial obligation.
However, many families also choose to pre-fund their arrangements to help ease the financial burden on loved ones. Pre-funding allows you to make financial preparations ahead of time and, depending on the plan selected, may offer additional benefits such as protection against future price increases.
Our pre-planning specialists can explain the available options and help you decide what works best for you and your family.
Can I transfer my plans to or from another funeral home?
Yes. In most cases, prearranged funeral plans can be transferred from one funeral home to another.
If you've made arrangements elsewhere and would like to transfer them to Walker Funeral Home, we're happy to help make the process as simple as possible. Likewise, if you move away or wish to transfer your arrangements to another funeral home, we'll assist you with that process as well.
Transfer options may vary depending on how your arrangements were funded, but our pre-planning specialists can help you understand your options and guide you through the necessary steps.
