Obituary

Thomas James Hannett was born August 18, 1935 in New York City, New York to Alfred Lawrence Hannett and Anna Veronica Mc Hugh Hannett. He passed away on October 26, 2020 from pneumonia complicated by Covid 19. He was 85 years old.

After graduating from High School, he joined the United States Air Force in 1954. He proudly served his country in the Air Force and was stationed in Guam. He earned his Marksman badge and advanced to Sargent E5. After retiring from the Air Force he then joined the National Guard. He was honored to serve his country for 10 years. Later in life he joined the American Legion in Utah and attended many funerals for his fellow servicemen.

He met the love of his life, Christine Gwendolyn Hannett, while he was serving in the US Air Force at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. They were married on September 14, 1958 in Lead, South Dakota. They were later sealed in the Provo, Utah LDS Temple for time and all eternity. They were blessed to have 7 children together: Thomas (Diane) Hannett, Steven (Barbara) Hannett, Bonnie Hannett, Lorraine Hannett, Doug (Terry) Hannett, Shawn (Connie) Hannett, Joseph Hannett. They currently have 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He was very dedicated to his wife, Christine, and always escorted her to her doctor appointments and dialysis. He spent many hours with her while she was in the hospital, sometimes staying the night to be by her side. He considered her his “Rock” and loved her very deeply.

He worked for the state of Wisconsin as an orderly taking care of severely handicapped people. He always referred to his patients as his kids. After 26 years, he retired and moved to Utah.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many church callings. He loved working outside in his yard. You would frequently see him outside mowing the lawn or taking care of the sprinklers. He enjoyed doing many crafts (coloring, weaving, making survival bracelets and anything else he could find). He was an avid reader, and always seemed to have a book in his hand. He had several bird feeders in the yard and loved watching the birds as they came and left. He was always vigilant at keeping the bird feeders full so that no bird would go hungry.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Anna Hannett; his brother, Lawrence Hannett; and a grandson, Ryan Hannett.  He is survived by his wife, Christine; his children; and his sister, Lorraine.

He will be greatly missed.
