Obituary

Thayne Verdell Banks, aged 80, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 21, 1946, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to John and Maxine Banks. As the eldest of five children, he set an example of hard work and responsibility for those around him.

Thayne attended and graduated from Spanish Fork High School, where he formed many lasting friendships and excelled in a variety of sports, which he continued to enjoy throughout his life.

On February 14, 1976, Thayne married Nancy Jill Diamond. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Provo Utah Temple. Together they enjoyed 33 years of marriage, building a loving home, raising their family, and creating a lifetime of cherished memories. Together they raised three wonderful children: Kristy, Jessie Lyn, and Brady. Following the death of his beloved wife, Nancy, Thayne married Melvina Prince, and together they shared companionship, love, and happiness throughout the remainder of his life.

Thayne worked for Geneva Steel before becoming a planner/buyer for Teleflex (later Klune Industries) and Rocky Mountain Machine Shop before his retirement.

Thayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He cherished time spent with his family and was one of their greatest supporters, rarely missing a game, performance, or special event. He dearly loved his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them.

He had a love of music and found great joy in playing his favorite tunes on his collection of guitars. When he wasn’t playing music, he could often be found on the golf course, working in his yard, cheering on his favorite sports teams, or adding to his collection of vintage antiques, all of which brought him great enjoyment throughout the years. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, including spending time with his beloved dogs, Rocky and Rosie. Thayne was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in numerous callings throughout his life.

Thayne is survived by his loving wife, Melvina Banks; his children, Kristy (William) Eastwood, Jessie (Brett) Newell, and Brady Banks; his children from a previous marriage, Lisa and Harley; five stepchildren; his grandchildren, Bridger, Brylee, Boden, and Brykelle Eastwood; his siblings, Carl (Debbie) Banks, Lynn (Christie) Banks, Jeff Banks, and Marla (Randall) Talbot, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, his parents, John and Maxine Banks and his grandparents.

Thayne will be remembered for his love of family, his kindness, and the joy he brought to those who knew him. His legacy will continue through the lives of his children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know and love him. We look forward to the day when we will meet again.

In accordance with Thayne’s wishes, a viewing will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at the Payson City Cemetery, 400 North 800 East, Payson, Utah.

The family would like to thank the staff at Utah Valley Hospital, Central Utah Rehabilitation Hospital, Mountain View Hospital, and Enhabit Hospice who provided kind and compassionate care to Thayne during his final days. Your dedication and support were greatly appreciated.
