Obituary

Steven William Booras, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed scholar, peacefully passed away on March 31, 2024, in Provo, Utah, at the age of 83. He was born on September 9, 1940, in Vallejo, California, to the late Nelda Booras and Robert Springall.

Steven is survived by his devoted wife and companion, Sharon Booras, with whom he shared a marriage filled with love and service together. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his devoted children: Kimball Springall, Becky Kint, Kirsten Shipman, Missy Poulson, and Cindi Field. Steven was a beloved grandfather to an astounding 50 grandchildren, each one a testament to the love he gave and received. He is also survived by his faithful brother, Terry Booras.

A dedicated scholar, Steven’s passion for learning and faith guided his life’s journey. He embarked on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Gulf States from 1960 to 1962, after which he attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management in 1968.

Throughout his professional career, Steven made significant contributions to academia and religious scholarship. He served diligently at FARMS (Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies), CPART-BYU (The Center for the Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts), and BYU’s Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship as the Manager of Technical Operations in Multi Spectral Digital Imaging.

Among his notable achievements were his involvement in special projects such as the preservation of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Papyri in Petra, Jordan, Maya Murals at Bonampak, and the Herculaneum Scrolls from 79 AD in Naples, Italy. He also dedicated his talents to preserving and digitizing numerous important manuscripts for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Steven was preceded in death by his first wife and eternal companion, Susan Booras, his daughter Kerry Neilson, his grandson Callen Neilson, his grandson Kasen Kint, his mother Nelda Booras, and his fathers, Robert Springall and William Booras.

A man of faith, integrity, and unwavering dedication to his family, Steven’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His kindness, wisdom, and passion for knowledge have left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
