Obituary

Stacy Benson Mattinson was born April 11, 1965, in California, and placed under the loving care of Claudine S. Benson. Stacy often spoke of her adoption with pride, knowing that she was chosen and placed in a household that loved her.

On November 10, 2021, she was taken from her family unexpectedly, after nearly a decade long struggle with pain and illness. We are grateful she is no longer suffering, even though a bit of that has transferred to those that loved her.

Stacy is survived by her husband, Chad G. Mattinson; her two daughters, Anjuli (Byron Peters) Davies and Baili TaShara (Bret) Wilkinson; her two grandsons, Kamden Tai Davies and Jonas Flynn Peters; and her sister, Nikki Leiter.

Stacy was preceded in death by her mother, Claudine S. Benson; and her grandfather, Bus (Sterling) Spencer.

Stacy was very creative and talented, and used those skills to become a notable cosmetologist. She took a lot of pride in her work and, at one time, owned a salon. She then moved on to management in a high volume corporate salon, where every stylist admired her abilities not only as a cosmetologist but as a leader and friend. She left cosmetology officially when she physically couldn’t perform the job she loved so much. Fortunately for those around her, the love was strong enough to continue doing hair out of her kitchen, much to her daughters’ and their friends’ benefit.

Professionally, she moved on to a costume company that made outfits for dance performers, notably the BYU Ballroom Team. We think this is where she developed her adoration of glitter, which would plague the family from that point on. Indulging in her daughters’ love of Halloween, she made them several remarkable costumes that they would wear for years to come, and now will be treasured in her memory.

In her spare time, she expressed her creativity through floral design. She would make wreaths and centerpieces, and happily display them for any occasion, though her favorite was always Christmas. Her home was always warmed by these decorations, and many will remark how talented she was at bringing life into any room. Expanding these talents, she began acquiring and restoring furniture. She had a knack for spotting a deal, and was able to create gorgeous pieces while supporting her family and doing something she loved. She was always busy working on something, and more than once did her family wake up to a room a completely different color, or covered in stripes.

It’s no secret that Stacy’s favorite holiday was Christmas. Stacy was always willing to help anyone in need, and during Christmas would delight in showering presents on whomever she could. When they were able, Stacy and Chad would gift an entire Christmas to a family that they knew could use the support, and leave the gifts on their doorstep to discover in the morning. This generosity carried over to her loved ones, and even though her family was overwhelmed by her enthusiasm, it will be sorely missed this coming season. Stacy was the Christmas spirit in the family, and we will never be able to fill that void.
