Robert Allen
Savage
Nov 19, 1932 — Apr 17, 2025
Born on November 19, 1932, Robert Allen Savage was the only child of Allen Fred Savage and Lois Vivian Hunt. Born in Los Angeles, California, “Bob” spent his entire youth there in the company of both sets of grandparents, aunts & uncles, and numerous cousins. He graduated from Venice High School in 1950. He excelled at math, baseball and making homemade radios. His studies at Los Angeles City College were cut short with the beginning of the Korean War. After enlisting in the Navy, he took the test to be a radioman. Only five men passed in Southern California and he was one of them.
His first duty station was at the Naval Testing Center at Ridgecrest, California. This allowed him monthly passes to visit his parents. On his last visit to his parents before shipping out to Naples, Italy, Bob met the love of his early life, Barbara Floyd. They had been corresponding for 6 months, when Bob received notification that his father had suffered a heart attack. By the time he was able to return to Los Angeles, his father had passed away. After the funeral, Bob and Barbara decided to marry before shipping out to Italy, They were married by the bishop of their best friend, Margy Whitehead, on December 26, 1953, in Malibu, California. The couple enjoyed an extended honeymoon in Italy and returned to Los Angeles in June 1955.
Upon discharge, Bob enrolled at UCLA part time, and worked full time for RCA in the evenings. During this time, his family was enlarged by his children Robyn, Bonnye, and Scott. He graduated in 1963 with a B.S. in electronics engineering, and his first job was at Autonetics (later Rockwell). The Savages bought a house in North Tustin, California and life was good. The Savages especially enjoyed swimming in their pool and camping at Yosemite during the summer.
Barbara’s best friend, Margy, invited them to meet with the missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The children were baptized in 1969, and Bob would attend church with them and take them to various church activities. He eventually joined the Church in January 1973 and Barbara joined at the end of September 1979. Bob and Barbara were sealed in the St. George temple by President John E. Russon, the same man who officiated at their civil wedding in December 1953.
Barbara died from a heart attack one week before Christmas in 1985. Bob soon after met his second love, Joan Bartholomew Davis, and they were married on September 13, 1986. Bob and Joan had a fulfilling life together. They moved from Tustin to Morgan Hill, California in 1987 to start a new job. After retiring, they moved to Payson, Arizona. They served a CIS mission in Pierre, South Dakota 2001-2002. When they returned home, they were called as Stake Missionaries, and were assigned to the branch in Tonto Basin. They remained in Payson AZ for twenty years before deciding to move closer to family. They bought a home in Heritage Village in Payson, Utah. Bob and Joan enjoyed doing handicrafts, making new friends, visiting family, and going to the temple.
Joan’s health began to decline in October 2023 and she spent 10 months in a rehab facility. Time took its toll and Bob gave up his home and moved to Orchard View Assisted Living to be with Joan. Joan died in November 2024 and Bob passed away on Thursday April 17, 2025.
Bob is survived by Robyn Savage Jensen, Bonnye Wallace (Mark), Scott Savage, and Joan’s children, Dan Davis, Jeri Lyn Lee, Diane Gallant (Joe), Janet Holguin (Dave), Joy Smith (Rich), Charles Davis (Kathleen), and 27 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a public viewing at Walker Mortuary in Payson Utah on May 1, 2025 from 9-10 am. Interment and a private ceremony will occur afterwards at the Utah Veterans’ Cemetery.
