Randy Gene
Stoneman
May 31, 1952 — Jul 20, 2025
Randy Gene Stoneman passed away July 20, 2025 in Orem, Utah. He was born May 31, 1952 in Payson Utah to William Eugene and Coleen Kirk Stoneman.
Randy had fond memories of growing up in Goshen and Spanish Fork, Utah—places that always held a special spot in his heart. He graduated from Payson High School in 1970 and loved reminiscing about the good ole days. Randy had a wide range of interests and attended The Trade Tech, after high school, where he changed his course of study more than once—always curious, always learning. He had a way of picking up a little something about everything, making him what many would call a jack of all trades.
Randy married his first wife, on August 21, 1971, in Orem, Utah. After they went their separate ways, he went to work at the Burgin and Trixie Mines. Then, on March 21, 1975, in Provo, Utah, he remarried, Glenna Earlene Stoneman, making her his first and second wife—after realizing he just couldn’t live without her. Together, they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They made their home in Provo, Orem and Lehi, Utah, raising seven children along the way. Randy spent many years working for Dale Despain at Intermountain Sand Company, where he earned a reputation as a skilled truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Loyalty was important to him, especially to a company and a man who treated him and his family with respect. After retiring from Intermountain Sand, Randy worked for Burningham Trucking for about a year before fully stepping away from the job.
Randy had a wide range of hobbies that brought him joy throughout his life. He collected stamps off and on over the years and, at one point, proudly owned the best stamp collection in Utah. He also took great pride in his yard, spending as much time as he could working outdoors. He and Glenna enjoyed planning the layout together, carefully choosing their favorite flowers and trees. For Randy, designing the perfect yard was a never-ending project—no sooner would he finish than he’d start over with a new vision. Among all his interests, though, nothing brought him more happiness than fishing. He especially cherished the time spent fishing with his first and favorite fishing companion, his son Randy Jr., who shared his deep love for the sport.
Randy planned countless fishing trips and had a real gift for waking everyone up at the butt crack of “O’ dark-thirty”—well before the Lord had even flipped on the morning lights. He’d round up the whole family, half-asleep and bleary-eyed, and head out to one of his favorite fishing holes. Once there, Randy would somehow manage to catch everyone’s limit—because in his book, no one was going home until the last fish was reeled in. Whether he was out for just an hour or sunrise to sunset, Randy could completely lose himself in the peace, patience, and pure joy of fishing.
Randy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He truly loved the Lord—though they didn’t always see eye-to-eye. A true social butterfly, Randy could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, anywhere, as long as it was one-on-one—his favorite setting. And if you let him, he’d talk your ear off without missing a beat. Beneath his sometimes-rough exterior was a kind and generous heart. He was always ready to help—whether it was a neighbor, a friend, or especially his family. If one of his children called needing something, he’d drop everything to be there. Randy had a knack for solving problems and guiding his loved ones through life’s challenges. He loved his family fiercely, even when life wasn’t always kind.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna Earlene Ferguson Stoneman (Lehi), his son, Matthew Lee Stoneman (Spanish Fork), his daughter Kenna Earlene Johnson (Danny, Idaho Falls), his daughter, Kimberly Lou Stoneman (Lindon), his son, John William Stoneman (Shandi, Provo), his daughter, Calista Coleen Stoneman (Lehi) & his youngest daughter, Sarah Jane Stoneman (Lehi). His sister, Marie Stoneman (California) and his youngest sister, Shauna Stoneman (Spanish Fork). He is also survived by 11 grandkids and 8 great grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Eugene Stoneman and Coleen Kirk Stoneman, his son Randy Gene Stoneman Jr. and his sister, Marcia Stoneman.
We would like to offer our sincerest gratitude to Orem Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing, for taking care of our husband, dad, brother and friend who cared for him and treated him with love, dignity and respect while helping him transition to his next adventure
