Phillip Bryan
Meldrum
Feb 25, 1970 — Jun 7, 2025
Phillip Bryan Meldrum, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on June 7, 2025, after a couragous two-year battle with cancer. Born on February 25, 1970, in Provo, Utah, to Larry Joe Meldrum and Melanee Mitchell Meldrum, Phil was raised in Pleasant Grove, where he learned the value of hard work, deep faith, and the beauty of the outdoors.
Phil was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the beautiful country of Scotland, where he developed a love for people, history, and culture. After returning from his mission, he began working at the Utah State Training School, where he met the love of his life, Stephanie Hurst. They were sealed for time and all eternity on August 7, 1992, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Their song was “You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago, a tune that perfectly reflected their enduring love and partnership.
He was the proud father of two sons: Hunter Phillip, born November 5, 1994, and Tyler Bryan, born April 16, 1997 (married to McKenna). He supported his children and grandchildren in every endeavor. He never missed an event and he was at the hospital the moment the twins were born to his youngest son Tyler and his wife McKenna.
Phil became “Grandpa Phil” in January of 2023 to grandtwins Jude and Hallee. They brought immense happiness into his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. They knew he had magical powers, especially when he changed the color of the lights in the living room. When they visited him at the hospital, he truly lit up with joy. They will miss visiting, swimming, and playing with Grandpa Phil.
Phil was a jokester in the most loving way. Those he loved most were given funny nicknames, including his special daughter-in-law McKenna, whom he affectionately called “the hobbit” while referring to himself as “the ogre.”
Phil worked at US Synthetic for over 22 years, where he was known not only for his strong work ethic but also for the friendships he cultivated. He was an avid outdoorsman who found peace and fulfillment in nature—whether hunting, hiking, camping, or riding his side-by-side. He especially loved motorcycle rides, including a memorable trip to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with his brother Mark. Phil had a deep passion for all sports, especially football, and was a Kansas City Chiefs fan—this was prompted by the few years he lived there. A talented chef, Phil was famous among family and friends for his salsa, his grilling and his smoking skills. If you ever had a seat at his table, you knew you were loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie, to whom he was married for nearly 33 years; his sons, Hunter and Tyler (McKenna); grandtwins Jude and Hallee; siblings Irene (the late Darrell) Christensen, Mark (Laurie) Meldrum, Lori (Jon) Dansie, and Gordon Meldrum; his in-laws Byron and Nelda Hurst, Jenny (Mike) Hansen, Greg (Emily) Hurst, Jeff (Cristy) Hurst, and Justin (Crystal) Hurst; his best friend, Kirt (Jen) Victor; and many nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Joe Meldrum and Melanee Mitchell Meldrum, and his sister, Ann Replogle. Phil’s warmth, generosity, and commitment to his relationships will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 75 South 600 East in Payson, Utah. Visitation will be prior at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
