Obituary

National Abraham Boekweg passed away in the loving arms of his parents Abraham and Britney Boekweg on April 8, 2022. Nash was born at 24 weeks on March 7, 2022 and weighed 1 pound 5 ounces.

Nash’s spirit was just too big for this world. He filled the whole world with so much love for an entire month. He spent 33 precious days on earth and every single one of them was cherished. During his too short life, Nash touched countless hearts.

When he wasn’t using his tiny hands to attempt to pull his feeding and breathing tubes out of his mouth, he was using them to capture the hearts of every nurse, doctor, and respiratory therapist in the NICU. He had the biggest personality and most definitely had opinions. He loved to be swaddled and his favorite time was spent with his parents during cares where they were able to give him a bath, change his tiny diaper and take his temperature. He loved to hold Dad’s hand and peek his little eyes at Mom. He always knew when his parents walked in to the NICU to visit. He would start to escape from his swaddle and he would open his little eyes to look for them when he heard their voices.

Nash was hard fought for. His parents spent 4 long years trying to get him here. Eventually they did Invitro Fertilization (IVF) and ended up with one single embryo, sweet, perfect, Nash. He has been a miracle from the start and fought so hard to meet his parents.

The name National means “son of nations”. It took a whole nation to get Nash here. Starting from the very first dollar donated to Nash’s IVF Fund. He belongs to all of us. He has a little piece of all of us in him and we all have a little piece of him in us.

In addition to his parents, Nash is survived by many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins as well as his Maternal Grandmother Korina Serrano and his Paternal Grandparents Joseph and Dawnelle Boekweg. He is preceded in death by his Maternal Grandfather Jason Wilson.

We are incredibly grateful for every second we got to spend with Nash. We are also so grateful for every member of his medical team in the NICU that loved him and fought hard to keep him here on earth. We know they did everything they could. Some spirits are just too perfect to stay. Nash’s job was to make us parents and show us how important and special being a parent is. Mission accomplished. You will be our perfect little boy forever Nashy. We can’t wait until we can be with you again.
