Maureen Abildskov
Henderson
Sep 29, 1929 — Apr 15, 2019
Maureen Henderson, a great woman of integrity and character, passed away Monday morning, April 15, 2019. Maureen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, who will be missed by all who knew her.
Maureen was born September 29, 1929 in Salem, Utah. She was the daughter of the late Asmus Pape (Johnny) Abildskov and Annie Marie Peterson. Maureen married J.C. Henderson on October 8, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple.
She was born and raised in Salem, Utah. Maureen loved everything about her hometown, including Salem Pond. She attended school in Salem and Spanish Fork and graduated from Spanish Fork High School.
When J.C. returned from the war, Maureen married her longtime sweetheart. They were blessed with two children; Ann (deceased) and Jon Lane. They have nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Maureen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many church positions. She served as Relief Society President, Young Women President, Primary teacher and enjoyed ministering to anyone and everyone. She never met any one that didn’t become an instant friend.
When J.C. and Maureen purchased the Spanish Fork Press in 1958, she and her husband became inseparable to the community of Spanish Fork. She became the first wedding planner in the city as she worked with every bride in the city on their wedding invitations. Her tenacity to do the job well is still mentioned by many who still frequent the business some 40 years later.
In fact, J-Mart Publishing which became part of the Spanish Fork Press is a name dedicated to the founders. J stands for J.C. and Mart is what J.C. always called Maureen. The name like them has stood the test of time and remains a monument to their love of community.
Maureen served with her husband in a variety of assignments from scouting to the Veteran’s Council. She was honored with J.C. by being selected as the Grand Marshalls for Fiesta Days in 1987 and by being named the Kiwanis Club Community Service Award winners in 2001. Maureen also helped the Chamber of Commerce as one of their first secretaries.
Maureen is survived by her son, Lane (Leslie) Henderson of Spanish Fork, Utah; grandchildren Nathan Maycock, Natalie (Maycock) Ostler, Emily (Maycock) Wilson, Melissa (Henderson) Cooper, Kimberly Henderson, Travis Henderson; and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, J.C. Henderson; her brothers, Dr. J.A. and Dale Abildskov; her daughter Ann Maycock; grandson Daniel Maycock; and granddaughters Nicole and Amberly Henderson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 12:00p.m. at the Spanish Fork 1 st Ward Chapel, 310 East Center. Friends and family may call that same day from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
