Obituary

Mark was born in Sigourney, Iowa on August 21, 1971 and later moved to Salt Lake City, UT as a child with his birth family. When Mark was 10 years old, he was lovingly brought into the arms and home of Douglas & Sondra Pearce and their 6 children to slide into the second-youngest spot. Finally, the Pearce family was complete.  For years, Sondra had always asked who was missing at the dinner table. Once Mark sat down with his big adventurous heart and spirit, the question was never asked again.

Mark loved to try new things and see how far every limit and boundary could be pushed. There was never a dull moment. It is hard to lose count of his many exciting experiences including rolled Jeeps, helicopter ambulances, broken bones, firework burns, shredded clothes, and plenty of stitches, just to name a few.

At Olympus High School, Mark excelled in all of the elective classes where his artistic and mechanical mind could soar. This was where he learned to love cars and the pottery wheel. Both hobbies stayed with Mark throughout his adult life and you could always find him tinkering with or fixing something. Mark graduated in 1990 and later attended Dixie College and Salt Lake Community College.

In 1992, Mark married Heidi Hammond. During their 18 year marriage, they had four beautiful daughters– Kazlen, Kalisa, Boston, and Branson. As a family, they had all sorts of fun adventures together including boating, skiing, fishing, and golfing. Mark loved being a dad to his girls and was very hands-on. He could do their hair as good as anyone and was a doting father. Mark loved being around children, probably because  he was always a kid at heart.

In 2009, Mark met Ashley Trujillo and her two amazing children, Koda & Kyiann. They fell in love and were married in 2011. Together, they had two more boys, McKoy and Chance. Mark embraced having sons with all his heart and loved doing all the “boy things” like playing with dinosaurs and catching bugs to feed to the pet spider that Mark was utterly afraid of. Mark & Ashley were always on the go. They enjoyed spending time in southern Utah, collecting vintage items, and cheering on the Utes. They didn’t have to plan anything special, they would just go for drives and talk or stay home and color for hours. Mark and Ashley just loved spending time together and making each other laugh.

Mark was a hard worker his entire life.  Every job he had, he gave it his all. It was a real challenge when his health prevented him from holding a full-time job. Mark had a selfless heart and was always helping others even if he didn’t feel well. That included delivering his famous Christmas Fudge to his many friends and family. His excellent cooking will be dearly missed at home.

As stated before, Mark was very mechanically minded and LOVED cars. He fixed his own cars, his extended family’s cars, his neighbor’s cars, and even anyone stranded on the side of the road. And boy did he love his Derby Car! He was constantly buying different cars, fixing them up to sell and then start all over again. He drove mustangs, jeeps, audis, trucks, maseratis, crappy Plymouths, you name it – he’s owned it and fixed it and sometimes wrecked it, and then fixed it again. And, his lead foot was unmatched.  One time he made it from Provo to St. George in 2 hours.

Beyond his love for his family and his cars, Mark also loved his Utes, much to the chagrin of his parents who were “dyed-in-the-wool” Cougars. But, they all shared a deep love for southern Utah. Red sand coursed through Mark’s veins and he tried to spend as much time there as he could. Some of his fondest memories were helping with the annual cattle round-up on the family ranch as a teenager. He also loved Halloween! If you ever went to Mark’s home in October you were in for a spooky and unforgettable experience.

To the shock of everyone, Mark passed away in his sleep on August 1 st , 2021. Now he is free from his bodily aches and pains and reunited with his parents and grandparents.  Mark is survived by his wife Ashley Butler Pearce, his eight children; Kazlen (Lorenzo) Pearce, Kalisa (Jordan) Burningham, Boston (Cael) Caldwell, Branson Pearce, Koda Trujillo, Kyiann Trujillo, McKoy Pearce, and Chance Pearce, and 6 grandchildren; Silas, Kyler, Avery, Vaydia, Baylor, and Enzo, and his 6 siblings: Lex (Tina) Pearce, Tonette (Kelly) Harris, Roma (Tim) Stewart, Katie Pearce, Melissa (Sean) Stromberg, and Annetta (Ryan) Hessenthaler. He is preceded in death by his parents Douglas & Sondra Pearce, and his grandparents.
