Obituary

Marion James Hancock, 68, passed away on August 19, 2021, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah, surrounded by his beloved family. Marion was born January 21, 1953, to Irving Zenos Hancock and Lillie Wendel, in Spanish Fork. He married the love of his life, Sharlene Carroll, June 19, 1975 in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Marion grew up in Spanish Fork. He achieved the Eagle Boy Scout rank. He and his brother, Paul, loved building go-carts. They both played in the band in high school. He graduated from Spanish Fork High school in 1971.

He had a pet raccoon, shortly after getting married, named Ricky. Ricky was released into the wild after growing to adulthood.

Marion was a mechanic for 11 years. Then he worked at Trojan Explosives in Spanish Fork, where he got into the Information Technology field. He then worked at Alcoa / Sapa in Information Technology until he retired. He had two of his sons work with him in IT. One of his favorite things to do when working with Dave was to jump out and startle him.

He loved attending all of his grandchildren’s activities and sports. He had a huge love for Christmas and taught his whole family to love it, too.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the gospel.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Paul; and by his sister, Rinza. Marion is survived by his sister, Janelle; his wife, Sharlene; his six sons and their spouses: Jeremy and Julie, David and Julie, Bryan and Whitney, Jeffrey and Jerrica, Bradley and Amanda; and Mikel; as well as 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
