Lynn Hawkes
Poulter
Jan 12, 1941 — Feb 23, 2022
Born January 12, 1941 to Vernon Carl and Ethel Hawkes Poulter, Lynn loved hunting, fishing, the arts, singing and acting, and excelled at all of them. He met his wife, Lynette, his freshman year at BYU and that began their epic marriage of 59 years and a life long love story. They gave lives to 6 beautiful children, 26 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Lynn has always been a caregiver and creator. From the time he was a young art teacher at Provo High, teaching classes in drawing, painting, photography and sculpture, to the raising of a family on a tight budget, he and Lynette created a unique and creative environment in their small Provo home with their 6 children. As his family grew, he created a new life for them in a home he and Lynette designed and built in Woodland Hills, Utah in 1977. As the sixth house in Woodland Hills, it was more of a frontier than a city. But living in this frontier setting, gave their children the opportunity to learn life lessons and develop values like character, integrity, honesty and hard work.
Lynn had a shop/studio his whole life, where he created refinements for their home and gifts for his sweetheart. At the age of 60 from his garage shop, he remodeled their home to be a more suitable environment to care for himself and his wife with dementia. At the age of 75, he built an addition to their bedroom that would aid in her care as her health declined. After caring for Lynette in her dementia for 11 years, she passed away.
Shortly after Lynette’s passing, Lynn was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. As the disease forced him to leave his home of 45 years and stripped him of his mobility and abilities to create art, he continued to be an example of a follower of Christ. He held onto gratitude and love as he continued to build people and relationships just as he had done with his wife, family and the thousands of students he cared for along the way.
Lynn is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Lynette Butters Poulter; parents, Vernon Carl and Ethel Hawkes Poulter; and siblings, Vernon Carl Poulter II and Marian Poulter Cosman. He is survived by his children: Krystin (Mike) Morley, Zachery (Rebecca) Poulter, Jennifer (Brent) Fulton, Gunnar (Tori) Poulter, Paisley (Craig) Callister and Levi (Leigh) Poulter.
