Obituary

Lurain Lyman, 71, passed away October 7, 2019.  Lurain was born on July 26, 1948 in Porterville, California to Emery Hunter Lyman and Melba Willardson.  She attended Bella Vista High School in Orangevale, California.  She later moved to Utah where she spent the rest of her life.  She loved beautiful Utah County where she made her home.

Lurain was a dedicated lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served a full time mission from 1969 to 1971 in the Central States Mission.  She faithfully served at the clothing counter in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple for 15 years – getting up at 4:00 every Wednesday morning to work her shift.  She has served as the Ward Librarian for too many years to count.

Upon returning from her mission she moved to Salt Lake where she attended dental assistant school.  She worked for a number of years in the dental field.  Her final career was as the Accounts Payable Clerk for the City of Orem where she worked for over 29 years making sure the bills got paid so the lights stayed on.

Lurain was an accomplished stained-glass artist making dozens of beautiful mosaics that will be treasured for many years.  She had the honor of one of her pieces being purchased by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as part of their permanent collection.  The piece is of the Garden Tomb and has been on display at the Church History Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She enjoyed many different types of crafts.  Thousands of hats were made by her and donated to humanitarian aid and to cancer patients.  She loved to work in her yard and garden and took pride in her beautiful roses.

Lurain is survived by four nieces and seven nephews and their families.  She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Frances Lyman and Linda Lyman.  She is also survived by her best friend and co-idiot, Cathy Wies.  Her fur babies, Abby and Gygi, are missing her a lot.

She has gone to a joyful reunion with her parents, Emery and Melba Willardson Lyman, brothers Norman and Kurt, sister Jean Wright, brother-in-law, Ted Wright and nephew, Emery Wright.
