Obituary

Lorraine Kaye Dedrickson, age 68, passed away August 24, 2025, in Spanish Fork, Utah surrounded by her loving family after a 16-month courageous battle with cancer.
Lorraine was born on October 4, 1956, in the small town of Gooding, Idaho, to Lauren and Geraldine Shaver. As a child and teen in Gooding, Lorraine made many friends and learned to work, bake, sew, sing, swim, and play. Lorraine’s parents divorced when she was ten. As the oldest of three children, Lorraine shouldered many homemaking responsibilities to help her single mother. She graduated from Gooding High in 1974, where she participated in track, choir, yearbook staff, and twirling the fire baton.
Following high school, she attended Ricks College. She was honored to be chosen as a member of the Freedom Singers, a traveling choir group. Freedom Singers profoundly shaped her life and testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was also blessed to meet the love of her life and eternal sweetheart, Rick Dedrickson. After just two weeks of dating, Rick knew Lorraine was the one; and after two more weeks of dating, Lorraine knew Rick was the one!
Rick and Lorraine were married in the Salt Lake Temple August 19, 1976. Shortly after Lorraine’s marriage, her mother remarried Wayne Thornock. Lorraine loved Wayne and her nine new step-siblings. Rick and Lorraine raised three children: Leslie, Justin, and Andrew. Lorraine made family life fun! Holiday parties were filled with costumes, piñatas, games, service projects, decorations, gift bags, and good food! Mom made the best potato salad and sugar cookies. She loved her family unconditionally and was their biggest cheerleader. She was part of the booster clubs and attended all of the many activities her kids and nine grandkids participated in.
Lorraine was an active member of the community, always volunteering. She served in Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, and many other civic groups. She loved singing in the community choir and was honored to sing at hundreds of funerals.
Lorraine was employed at Zions Bank and the Bank of American Fork for over 30 years. She loved working in banking and helping friends and neighbors with their banking needs. She spoke fondly of not only the people she helped, but of the many coworkers she called friends. She instilled her hard work ethic in her children and grandchildren.
Lorraine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings and served faithfully in all of them.
Lorraine loved to sew and later in life developed a love for quilting. She blessed the lives of many who had clothing altered or repaired by her. Her grandkids cherish the baby blankets and quilts she made for them.
Our world was blessed because Lorraine was our mom, grandma, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a person of integrity. She had an infectious laugh, a joyful countenance, a love for life, a compassionate, non-judgmental heart, and the energy and strength to get things done. Our mom was a goer and a doer! She made people feel loved and important. We often had extra friends at family gatherings because everyone knew they were welcome.
She and her family are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love from friends, neighbors, and acquaintances who have shown love and support throughout her illness. We thank the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Dr. Gupta, and the team of healthcare professionals who compassionately cared for our mom.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents Lauren Shaver and Wayne and Geraldine Thornock, in-laws Gale and Barbara Dedrickson, Gwen Dedrickson; and step-sister Vonda Cobb. She is survived by her loving husband Rick, three children Leslie (Harold) Measom, Justin (Melissa), Andrew (Breanne), 9 grandchildren Dylan, Lilly, Grady, Gianna, Mazie, Duke, Giselle, Will, and Judd; siblings Tracy (Denise) Shaver, Kathy Shaver; Step-siblings Rich (Jodi) Thornock, Clay (Christine) Thornock, Zurl (Sharon) Thornock, Nadine (Alan) Koyle, Melody Thornock, Rex (Bonnie) Thornock, Joy (Jim) Jones, and Wendy (Dave) Barker; and in-laws Janna (Harley) Hurst, Scott Dedrickson, Brad (Gina) Dedrickson, Julie (Ron) Benson, Jenifer Quackenbush, Andra (Kent) Gibson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A viewing will be held Friday, August 29 from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home (187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah) and on August 30 from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Meadowlark 1st Ward Chapel (1552 E 750 S, Spanish Fork, Utah).
