Lawrence “Larry” Bingham
Richins
Nov 28, 1946 — May 9, 2023
Our sweet husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend to all, Lawrence “Larry” Bingham Richins, 76, of Salem, Utah passed away peacefully on May 9, 2023 surrounded by family following a short battle with bile duct cancer.
Lawrence was born to Marvin and Beth Richins on Nov. 28th, 1946 in Coalville, Utah. He was the 2nd oldest of 7.
Lawrence met the love of his life, his dear Cherie Leavitt, in Provo, Ut. They were married in the St. George, Utah Temple Sept. 17, 1977. With adoration they raised 6 children. Through the years Larry and Cherie have welcomed 20 grandchildren into their hearts and family. No other responsibility surpassed in importance to Lawrence as that of patriarch of the family.
Lawrence graduated from North Summit High School in 1965 and continued his education receiving his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in 1974.
He was drafted due to the Vietnam war serving in the Army in the 24th Field Artillery Corps from 1968-1970 as an act of heroism, saving his brother from the front lines. He received many medals for his honorable service, including the bronze star.
Larry worked 30 years for Ash Grove Cement in Leamington, Utah as a physical chemist and retired in February of 2011.
Lawrence found repose blazing trails in the Uintas, hunting his grandfather’s grounds throughout Chalk Creek, all the while capturing every angle of their grandeur in his cherished landscape photography. He was a gun enthusiast, a gifted gardener, an intricate woodworker, an avid reader, and the Tabernacle Choir’s biggest fan. He found gratification in donating blood. Even in our sorrow we are reminded of Larry’s quick wit and humor; his one-liners only a thought away. His life of true discipleship, humility, deep insights, and knowledge of God, reminds us that true wisdom resides not only in our minds but in our hearts.
He was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hawaii mission from 1966-1968. With his sweetheart by his side, Lawrence served two more missions for the Church in the Springville Cannery from 2011-2013, and in Missouri at Adam-Ondi-Ahman from 2018-2019.
As an active member of the Church, Lawrence served faithfully in many callings, including Elder’s Quorum President, High Councilor, stake missionary, and in the primary. Every Thursday morning Larry found joy in attending the temple.
Lawrence is survived by his eternal companion, Cherie; children, Cara (Colby) Christensen, Heber City, Ut, Britany (Adam) Cornaby, Springville, UT, Lindsay (Joseph) Brandt, Salt Lake City, UT, Alyssa (Daniel) Delonas, Richland, WA, Wade (Kenna) Richins, Springville, UT, Micah (Daniella) Richins, Provo, UT, and 20 grandchildren. Five brothers, Royes (Darla), Albert (Kathi), Steven, Blaine (Susan), Melvin (Margarita), and one sister, Rozella (Anan Eldredge).
He was welcomed beyond the veil of death by his father Marvin Donald Richins, and mother Beth Bingham Richins.
Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for Larry throughout this difficult time.
