Obituary

Lawrence Grant Lewis (Larry) was born March 23, 1928, in Burley, Idaho, to Grant Christensen Lewis and Ila May Smith.   He passed away in Spanish Fork, Utah, January 26, 2021.

Larry grew up in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.  He joined the military and served in Japan just after World War II. After his time in the service, he moved to Utah to stay with family, during which time he met his sweetheart, Joan Stewart.  They were married in the Salt Lake Temple May 10, 1951.  They would have celebrated their 70 th anniversary this year.  They were blessed with seven children: LeAnn, Peggy, Riki, Kevin, Shelly, Stewart, and Scott.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Joan; and five of their children: Riki (Brenda) Lewis, Kevin (Brenda) Lewis, Shelly (Jay) Mason, Stewart (Angie) Lewis, and Scott (Lori) Lewis.  They have 26 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way.  He is preceded in death by their oldest daughter, LeAnn (Dan) Croft; and Peggy, who passed away shortly after she was born.

Larry was a Postman by profession.  He loved singing and sang in the Mendelssohn Chorus in Orem, and the Spanish Fork Community Choir, as well as his ward choir.  He was always singing around the house.  He also loved to perform in the Spanish Fork Community plays.  He learned to paint and painted some beautiful landscapes that his family will cherish.  He and Joan were members of Dancing Friends and loved to dance.  Another love he had was gardening.  He always grew a big vegetable garden, raspberries, and fruit trees.  He also loved to grow flowers.  He had many varieties of roses as well as other flower varieties.

Larry was a big tease.  He was known as the tickle monster and the hider of shoes.  His favorite treat was cookies of every kind.  So he was also known as the cookie monster.

Larry was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including the Seventies, as a nursery leader (where the kids adored him), and High Priest group leader.  He and Joan served a mission in the Philippines, Manila Mission.

His family would like to thank Yarrow Hospice, his nurse, Tangie Perry, and others on their staff, as well as the staff at Legacy House for their care during his last months.
