Obituary

Kirstin Mercey Robertson passed away peacefully in her sleep, on October 13, 2021, at 1:40 p.m. at Utah Valley Regional Hospital, due to COVID symptoms exacerbated by immuno-suppression. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Meetinghouse located at 1167 South 1700 East, Spanish Fork, Utah; and will be preceded by a visitation at 11:30 a.m. on the same day in the Relief Society room at the same location. Family members are invited to a late luncheon, at the church, following Kirstin’s graveside service at Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

Kirstin was born June 23, 1978, in Payson, Utah, to her parents, Steven M. Robertson and Ina Piket Robertson. While living with her family in Grantsville, Utah, Kirstin received her first kidney transplant when she was five years old, given to her from her mother.

While living in Germany with her family, she enjoyed going on 10-kilometer “folks-marches” (Volkswanderungen) with her family, even while walking in rain, mud, and ice storms. Kirstin was proud of her Dutch heritage. Her first language was Dutch, which she always spoke fluently, along with German.

After the family moved back from Germany, to Lawrence, Kansas, she enjoyed reading, playing with Daisy (the family dog), watching Anime movies, hiking, and canoeing with the family. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kansas, followed by studying and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She then pursued a degree in Medical Technology at the KU Med Center in Kansas City, which was cut short, due to kidney failure. Kirstin later received her second kidney transplant, at the age of 22.

Kirstin coped with chronic sickness with her trademark laughter. She sought humor and was quick and witty. She loved to send funny memes to her family, especially her niece and nephews. Kirstin truly was a light, bringing joy and humor wherever she went.

Later, after moving back to Spanish Fork, Utah, she worked in an elder care facility and then in Dr. Frampton’s office as an LPN. She enjoyed playing Dungeons and Dragons with her best friends, accompanied by much laughter, and was known to her friends as the “World’s Okayest Dungeon Master.” Kirstin loved knitting and spinning her own yarn, often demonstrating her spinning and knitting skills at public gatherings. She was a voracious reader and a talented creative writer.

She loved jetting around in her little red car, visiting her friends, and attending knitting and spinning retreats. Kirstin had many friends all over the world with whom she communicated online. She enjoyed watching Anime, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and RiffTrax movies; and playing video games together with her brother and her friends.

Friendship was a top priority for Kirstin. She loved deeply and was extremely empathetic. She was always willing to listen, validate, protect, and uplift.

Kirstin loved her job, working for a great boss and friends, at Heindselman’s Yarn and Gift in Provo, Utah, where she taught classes on spinning and knitting.

Kirstin especially loved her LDS Church calling as a Primary teacher and loved the children in her Primary class. She also taught the LDS Gospel Doctrine class for a while. Kirstin is a very kind person with a fun sense of humor.

Kirstin is survived by her parents, Steven M. Robertson and Ina P. Robertson; her sister, Christina Robertson Pearson; brother-in-law, Brent Pearson; her brother, Don V. Robertson, her sister-in-law, Leslie Dresser Robertson.  Also survived by her niece, Jordyn Pearson; and nephews: Austin, Kade, Tyce, and Jack Pearson; as well as her grandparents, Don and Carolyn Robertson. Preceded in death by grandparents, Trees Merceij Piket and Jacobus Piket.

Special thanks to the self-sacrifice and heroic efforts of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and specialists on the fourth floor of Pederson Tower at the Utah Valley Hospital. Their professionalism, helpfulness, medical explanations, and upbeat attitude while wearing claustrophobic protective gear helped our family get through this very difficult time. We would also like to thank our friends and neighbors in the Pine Meadows Ward for their overwhelming support, kindness, and generosity. We would also like to thank the fantastic neighborhood children who filled our driveway and sidewalks with chalk-written messages of love and support!
