Kent G.
Worthen
Apr 28, 1929 — Dec 9, 2022
Kent G. Worthen, age 93, passed away peacefully December 9, 2022, in Provo, Utah. He was born George Kent Worthen, April 28, 1929, in Cedar City, Utah, the youngest of 5 children to George H. and Cloie Sanders Worthen. He married his sweetheart, Jeanne Russell Worthen, February 19, 1954, in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. They were married for 64 years.
Kent was raised and attended school in Cedar City and Hurricane, Utah; and Las Vegas, Nevada. Kent served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, he attended Barber School in Mesa, Arizona and was also a brick mason, a trade which he had learned from his father. He worked at the BYU Barber Shop for several years, where he enjoyed building relationships with his clients, the students and thousands of missionaries before they left to serve. In addition, as a brick mason, he built many homes in many places. At age 19, he built his first brick fireplace in the family cabin, which is still there today. Dad was resourceful all his life; he would fix, build, create or modify just about anything and enjoyed doing it. He always had successful fruit trees and a beautiful garden, everywhere he and Jeanne lived. He even picked up the hobby of oil painting, later in his life.
Kent was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities. He served a mission in the Great Lakes area and later served a mission with his wife, Jeanne, at the Temple in Washington DC. Kent also served as a Bishop in Branson, Missouri, and loved his ward family and friends there.
Regardless of his many occupations, he would always say that his ‘greatest life accomplishment’, was marrying his eternal companion, Jeanne Russell Worthen. He served our Mom with loyalty, love, devotion and kindness for many years as she fought cancer. After she passed, dad was fiercely independent and enjoyed his temple service, visits with friends and family, and just ‘puttering around.’
He is survived by his children: Kent T. Worthen (Joyleen), Russell K. Worthen (Tonya), Daniel N. Worthen (Brenda), and Rebecca Worthen Erdmann (Gary). He and Jeanne have 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Cloie Worthen; his sweetheart, Jeanne Russell Worthen; daughters, Tamera Worthen Anderson and Debra Worthen; and his siblings: LaVella, Nina, Earl, and Clair.
We will celebrate Dad’s life on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints, 586 West 1750 South, Payson, Utah, with a viewing on Wednesday morning at the church, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., prior to the services. Interment will be in the Payson City Cemetery.
We love you Dad and Grandpa. You will be missed!
