Obituary

Kathryn LuCille Abbott Argyle, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 8, at age 78, following a valiant fight with cancer.

LuCille was always a whirlwind of activity due to her seemingly endless amount of energy and charity. On a typical day, she could complete a sewing project, clean a house, mow a lawn, go to work, serve in her church responsibilities, prepare a meal for her family, as well as for a neighbor, and volunteer at a hospital. No one could match her life’s pace.

LuCille was born May 30, 1941 to Medford Dee Abbott and Kathryn White in Payson, Utah, the second of six children. She spent her childhood years attending Payson schools, learning to work hard and developing many homemaking skills. She also found time to enjoy dancing and playing various sports. Graduating from Payson High and Seminary gave her long-lasting friendships. It wasn’t long after her encounter with Lake Shore native, Bert Argyle, that she knew she had met the man of her dreams. Marrying her eternal sweetheart in the Salt Lake Temple on April 10, 1959, they made their first home in Lake Shore. There, three children – Julie, Pam and Jess – joined Bert and LuCille in their loving home. The family then moved to nearby Benjamin, adding five more children – Guy, Keith, Wade, Layne, and Ann – to the family. Bert and LuCille recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

LuCille’s family was her most precious treasure and highest priority. She spent countless hours supporting her children in their education, sports, FFA, 4H, and church activities. She loved family gatherings, especially campouts at their summer home. LuCille cherished holiday family events, especially around her favorite holiday, Christmas. She loved the Christmas lights, decorations, food, music and gift giving, and always had delicious food and yummy treats for everyone. LuCille found any excuse to throw a party, to bring family and friends together to show her love for them.

After her children were all in school, LuCille went to work for Nature’s Sunshine Products, working as a purchasing agent. She loved her job and the many friendships made at NSP, retiring after 14 years.  As if a full-time job wasn’t enough, she continued her service volunteering at Mountain View Hospital for an additional 25 wonderful years. LuCille exemplifies the definition of serving others.

LuCille was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and filled her life with service and compassion toward others. She selflessly served in many church callings, on both a ward and stake level.

LuCille also enjoyed being an ordinance worker at the Payson and Provo Temples. Following her retirement, she and Bert served two church missions, fulfilling a life-long dream.

LuCille was very talented and loved to sew, knit, crochet, quilt, bake, and decorate beautiful wedding cakes. She enjoyed gardening and always kept a beautiful yard. Traveling was another passion and LuCille loved spending her winters in Arizona with Bert and finishing her bucket list of seeing all 50 states. As horse enthusiasts, Bert and LuCille enjoyed another passion – training and racing their award winning horses, which gave them even more opportunities to join with family and friends. Always anxious for more experiences and time with family, LuCille considered live theater a treat and never turned down an opportunity to play cards.

A friend to all, LuCille was quick to speak words of kindness and acceptance, offer hope and encouragement, and would do all that she could to lighten the load of another. Her life was full, busy and fast paced and she would have it no other way.

We wish to express our sincere love and appreciation to the many doctors, nurses, and medical personnel, ward members, and friends, for the service rendered to LuCille both during her battle and throughout her life.

She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Bert, and eight adoring children: Julie (Mike) Hales, Pam (Jim) Sullivan, Jess (Deloris), Guy (Mindee), Keith (Chris), Wade (Rachelle), Layne (Delora), and Ann (Jamon) Jarvis. She leaves 58 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, with three more on the way. LuCille was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and two sisters.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Benjamin Cemetery.
