Obituary

After an amazing 75-year trip, our beautiful Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend left this world and rejoined our Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 13, 2021.

Karen Jean was born August 20, 1946, in Gunnison, Utah, to Benjamin and Jean Stott, while her family was living in Sterling, Utah. She was welcomed by her older brothers, Gary and Jim. Later on, the family welcomed a third brother, Paul. Ben and Jean were excellent parents who taught their children the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Karen loved living in Sterling and spent a lot of time outside getting her clothes dirty by falling into ditches.

Sometime during Mom’s junior high years, the Stotts eventually settled in Provo, Utah, so that Grandpa could work at BYU. Mom graduated from Provo High School in 1964. Soon after, she enrolled at BYU and met our Dad, Karl Weight. Being set up on a blind date by an inspired younger brother of Karl’s (our uncle John), Mom received a personal revelation during the date that she would marry Karl. This is further evidence that Heavenly Father knows what he’s doing, because Dad took her snipe hunting in the mountains on that first date; and, if not for the revelation, there might not have been a second date.

Karl and Karen were married for time and eternity in July of 1965 in the Manti Utah Temple. Soon after their wedding, the couple moved to Provo, where they welcomed their first child, Staci, into the family. Three years later, while living in Fort Wayne, Indiana, their first son, Chad, was born. Returning to Salt Lake, and after another three years, their third child, Cori, blessed the family. Finally, knowing what was coming and needing nearly five years to work up the courage, Karl and Karen welcomed their fourth and final child, Jared.

Living in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Karl and Karen diligently worked to teach their children that which is most important, to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They created a loving home that was a welcome place for all, as many friends and family members can attest to. Eventually, Karl and Karen welcomed to their family 16 grandchildren and 2 (soon to be three) great-grandchildren.

After Dad retired, Mom and Dad were able to move into their dream home in the mountains of Woodland Hills, Utah, where they spent several happy years. Eventually, they moved to Payson, Utah.

During her life, Karen touched many people with her kindness and selflessness. She served faithfully in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved being a homemaker and decorating her home to always invite a feeling of love and peace. One of her many talents was her love of crocheting; she blessed many with her baby blankets, burp cloths, and dish rags. She loved all of her family, fiercely. One thing that was particularly touching was watching how she served her Dad and Mom, for many years, when each of them became sick. We are certain that Heavenly Father said to her what we all want to hear; “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Karl; four children: Staci Reitz (Robert), Chad (Jill), Cori Dellos (Matt), and Jared (Wendy); 16 grandchildren: Cydnee (Josh and their sons, Clayton and William), Baylee (Thè Pham), Jordan (Meg), Kaden, Preston, Austin, Amber, Michael, Lindsey, Trevor (Sarah, and a very imminent great-grand-daughter), Jason (McKell Gagon, and soon to be, Oldroyd), Hailee, Andrea, Joslyn, Luke, and Rylee. Also survived by her brothers: Gary, (Katherine [deceased]), Jim (Karen), and Paul (Brenda); along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
