Joyce Huff
Swanner
Dec 5, 1929 — Apr 13, 2020
Joyce Huff Swanner, age 90, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed from this earth early Monday morning, April 13 , 2020. She returned to her Father in Heaven and into the arms of her loved ones.
Joyce was born on December 5 , 1929, in Lake Shore, Utah, to Elmer Delos and Rhea Wightman Huff. She was the oldest of six children: Dale, Gary, Leta, Roger and Randy. She grew up during the depression and had to learn at a early age to work hard and help on the farm. The farm chores included thinning and topping beets, hauling hay, shucking grain and riding horses. Her brothers were always terrorizing her with mice, and she hated it.
Mom had a love for horses that she carried throughout her life. She often spoke of a hard lesson she learned. She had ridden her horse to go ice skating and stayed after dark, Grandpa came to get her in the car and sent the horse home. The horse was hit by a car and had to be put down. The worst part was every time its young colt whinnied for its mom, it broke her heart. She was a great horsewoman and enjoyed competitions, and mountain rides. She was a member of the Saddle Dusters Riding Club.
She attended school in Lake Shore and Spanish Fork, graduating in 1947. She and her friends, Mary Grace Argyle, Lois Peterson, Lois Tuckett, and Donna Aitken called themselves the “Big Five” and always wanted to be where the action was … uptown, in Spanish Fork. They had a lot of fun times together. She was also a member of the ladies Vestalian Club.
She married Kenneth Argyle in 1950; together, they had 3 children: Terri, Chad and Jan. They were later divorced. She had several jobs: Bus Depot Cafe, Mendenhall’s Market, and Mountain Bell Telephone as an operator, until 1959. She started working at Swanner Sporting Goods, where she loved working with the public, selling hunting and fishing supplies, guns and trophies.
She married Bud Swanner in November 1970. They were later sealed, in the Mt Timpanogos Temple, in 1999. They were a great match and loved doing so many things together, until his death, in 2010.
Joyce was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she held numerous positions in the Spanish Fork First Ward.
Joyce is survived by her children: Terri (Gary) Beckstrom, Chad (Teresa) Argyle, Jan Topham (Kevin Carter); 10 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Mom was a beautiful woman, with a great smile. She always loved to visit with family and friends. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She was always so proud of the accomplishments of each one. She always taught us to work hard, be honest, and serve others.
We will miss her smiling face and sense of humor. She will be forever in our hearts, until we meet again.
A private family viewing will be held on Friday, April 17, 2020, at Walker Funeral Home, Spanish Fork, followed by a family only graveside service .
