Joseph William
Carrick
Jul 3, 1962 — Aug 18, 2021
Joseph William Carrick returned home to his Heavenly Father on August 18, 2021, at 59 years of age, with his family by his side. Joe was born on July 3, 1962, to Ronald Albert Carrick and Linda Gammon in Provo, Utah, and was the second of six children. He graduated from Provo High, and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Thailand where he developed a deep love for the Thai people.
On October 19, 1983, two months and two weeks after their first date, he married his sweetheart, Deborah Kay Simmonds, in the Salt Lake Temple. Joe’s greatest joy was his family. He loved to gather in his backyard with them, watching his grandchildren play, and visiting with his children. Together as a family they enjoyed their time camping, cycling and vacationing.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joe faithfully served in many different callings and leadership positions including Bishop, High Counselor, and 1st Counselor in a BYU Stake Presidency. One of his favorite callings was serving as Scoutmaster. He loved the young men and extended his service to include National Youth Leadership Training (Timberline) for many years and received his Silver Beaver Award. Of all the honors he received during his time in scouting, the most treasured were the mentor pins he received from the young men he served.
Joe was a successful business owner and award-winning custom home designer for 35 years. He founded Joe Carrick Design (JCD) 25 years ago and has enjoyed serving the community and building lasting friendships with clients, builders, and other professionals in the industry. It has been his privilege to work professionally with every one of his children, at one point or another, and his legacy will live on through them.
He was a talented artist and craftsman. Joe’s creativity, artistic ability, and attention to detail influenced every aspect of his life including the homes he designed, the landscaping of his yard, and the watercolors he painted. He loved woodworking, cycling, doing projects with his family, traveling, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 37 years, Debbie Carrick; and his six children: Brian (Dara), Chris (Lindsay), James (Christina), Casey (Brett Wilson), Jason (Larissa), Bryson (Brielle); and 17 grandchildren. He is also survived by his parents, Ron and Linda Carrick; and his siblings: Al (Wendy), Cyd (Kris Cary), Ben (Elinor), Sam (Shellee), and Dan (Kristalee).
