Joan Mcfarlane
Stout
May 22, 1948 — Sep 11, 2022
Joan McFarlane Stout (nee McFarlane), 74, of Spanish Fork, Utah passed away peacefully in her home on 11 September 2022. She was born on 22 May 1948 to Raymond Rock McFarlane and Beth Stevens McFarlane (nee Stevens) in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Joan moved to Moses Lake, WA just after her fifth birthday. She graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1966 and promptly moved to Layton Utah. Shortly after this move, she met the love of her life, Richard Donald Stout. They married in the Salt Lake City Temple on 8 August 1969.
Joan spent her entire life in the service of others. She raised six children while living in various states as she supported her husband in his military career. She made each of those locations a true sanctuary from the world for her family. She had a special talent of making the world disappear within the walls of her home.
Her faith was truly a beacon on a hill. She taught her children to love God and to love each other. She nicknamed her children the “Get along Gang” to remind us all to love each other. She served in various capacities in the Church within the Seminary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations. But her greatest talent was in sharing her deep love for her family and for her Savior.
She is survived by one brother, Richard (Kathy) McFarlane, a sister, Kathleen (Lew) Mason, her husband of 53 years, Richard Stout, and their five daughters: Shanna (Bill) Cameron, Kasey (Tom) Frese, Ragan (Jared) Miles, Lindsey (Bryan) Okey and Laurel (Seth) Craig, and one son, Ryan (Tera) Stout. She has 21 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents and a brother.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 17 September 2022 at 11:00 a.m. located at the Church Building, 1158 East 1240 South, Spanish Fork, Utah. Family and friends may attend a visitation from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
