Obituary

Jim C. Norton, a remarkable individual who set the bar high in every aspect of his life, passed away on June 23, 2023, in Santaquin, Utah. As a son, husband, father, grandpa, friend, and artist he exemplified unwavering passion and an unyielding desire to be the best.

He was born on December 31, 1953, in Price, Utah to Gaye Fausett and James LeRoy Norton. Growing up as the eldest of six siblings, Jim’s childhood was marked by adventure as he moved with his family to various towns including Sunnyside, Utah, Carlsbad, New Mexico, Moab, Utah, Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Lyman, Wyoming.

After graduating from high school, Jim embarked on a two-year journey as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Great Australian West Mission. Upon his return, Jim married the love of his life, Pamela Sue Majeska on December 30, 1975. They have four children: Nathaniel Norton (Alyson), Jonathan Norton, Braden Norton (Toinnett), and Amanda Boshard (Adam).

Jim gained worldwide recognition for his exceptional talent as a western artist. His unique and captivating depictions of the West, both in historical and contemporary contexts, established him as a true master of his craft. Through his use of painterly colors, Jim breathed life into the stunning vistas and landscapes that adorned his canvas. His art was a reflection of his personal experiences, capturing the essence of living and traveling in the West while collaborating with cowboys and Native Americans.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Jim’s greatest joy and fulfillment were found in the embrace of his family and friends. He cherished every moment spent at Lake Powell with loved ones creating memories. Passionate about playing and watching sports, he devoted countless hours coaching his children. He found solace at his cabin near Robertson, Wyoming, where he found inspiration and a deep connection to the land he loved.

Jim’s fun and vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on his family, friends, and the artistic community he wholeheartedly embraced. His unwavering dedication to his wife, children, and seven adored grandchildren: Nataly, Tayvin, Kash, Lucy, Jordié, Afton, and Georgia was a testament to his boundless love and devotion.

The legacy of Jim C. Norton will endure through his lasting impact on the art world, his dedication to his family, and his unwavering zest for life. He leaves behind a wealth of inspiration for others.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Jim Norton, his brother Dennie Norton, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law William W. Majeska and Georgia Majeska.
