Obituary

Jewell LaMay Barney Swenson, 90, was born May 8, 1929, to Arnel Llewellyn Barney and Dott Althea Jolley Barney, in Elberta, Utah. She was raised in the Utah towns of Elberta, Orem, and Salem. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School. Following a year of school at Utah State University she married Clair C Swenson on August 25, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Initially, they made their home in Vernal, Utah, where she worked as a secretary at Uintah High School. They later moved to Spanish Fork, Utah, where they raised a family of two daughters and three sons.

Jewell had a deep testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She served others for most of her life through church callings. She served as a temple worker in the Provo LDS Temple. She enjoyed traveling throughout the world with her husband, Clair. She was an excellent cook and baker and kept her family and neighbors well stocked with homemade cookies and candy. She kept many of her grandchildren from starving while they attended Brigham Young University by inviting them to dinner on Sunday afternoons. She knitted countless sweaters and baby booties for family and friends. She was proud to be a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She leaves a legacy of children, their spouses, grandchildren (18), and great-grandchildren (43). She is survived by her children Pauline (Brent) Esplin of Cedar City, UT; Regina (Elbert) Dawson, of Layton, UT; Michael (Linda) Swenson of Idaho Falls, ID; Boyd (Jeanine) Swenson of West Jordan, UT; and Kirk (Sheri) Swenson of Idaho Falls, ID. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and one granddaughter.

Jewell passed away May 22, 2019, at Legacy House of Spanish Fork. She was under the care of Hearts for Hospice.
