Janis
Monk
May 5, 1934 — Jul 20, 2022
On July 20, 2022 Janis Marlene Edwards Monk passed away at Eternal Spring Assisted Living in Gilbert, Arizona. Janis was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Coulam for over 68 years.
Janis and Coulam met and fell in love when they were tennis partners in high school. They were engaged on Valentine’s Day 1953 and sealed for time and all eternity a few months later on August 4, 1953 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Some of the happiest days of Janis’s life were when each of her two sons were born. Bradley James Monk was born on April 10, 1961 and Keith Alan Monk was born on December 29, 1963. Janis absolutely loved being a mother. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children. Throughout her last years, Keith was always at her side helping her in any way she needed.
After Coulam graduated from dental school in 1967 from the University of Oregon, the family moved to Tempe, Arizona. Coulam and Janis have loved living and raising their family in Arizona. Janis enjoyed living close to a few of her siblings in Arizona. She considered her brothers and sisters her best friends.
One of her favorite things to do was to spend time with her granddaughters Stephanie and Amanda. They will always remember her hot pink or red lipstick and painted fingernails. Janis had such a gift for making everyone feel very loved and special. Those that knew and loved Janis will miss her infectious smile and her upbeat personality the most.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for her entire life. She loved her Savior Jesus Christ and had a firm testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Janis is survived by her husband, Coulam, sons Brad and Keith, granddaughters Stephanie (Nathan) Bleak and Amanda (Brian) Phillippi, 9 great grandchildren, and her sisters Jo Ann Gourley and Diane (John) Edwards. She is preceded in death by her brothers Robert Alan Edwards and Don Le”Roy” Edwards. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, July 25th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 2740 S. Lindsay Rd. Gilbert, Az. A viewing will be held before the service from 10:00am-10:50am . A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 30th at 10:00am at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery located at 420 S. 400 E. Spanish Fork, Utah.
