Janet Louise Dowlin
Taylor
Dec 2, 1940 — Jan 23, 2025
Janet Louise Dowlin Taylor, lovingly known as Jan, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in Salem, Utah. She was born on December 2, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Robert Earnest Girard “Bud” Dowlin and Nettie Kathryn Dowlin.
Jan lived a full and active life, residing in various states, including California, Oregon, Illinois, Kansas, and Arizona, before settling in Utah. She graduated from Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead, CA. On October 4, 1962, Jan married Robert Dean Taylor in the Los Angeles, CA, LDS Temple. Together, they built a loving family and a life of faith and service.
Jan was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. As a young woman, Jan served as a full-time missionary in the France East Mission and later, with her sweetheart Bob, two full-time missions to Johannesburg, South Africa.
Jan loved crafting, sewing, tennis, playing games with her family, and a good game of seek and go hide with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren will remember her for showing them their first scary movie, camping with her and Grandpa, and playing endless card games. Jan would create and mail the most beautiful cards for special occasions or for no other reason than to tell you she was thinking of you. Jan was full of adventure and always ready to have a good time. Jan will be remembered for her creativity, warmth, and devotion to her family.
She is survived by her husband and best friend, Robert Dean Taylor; her children, Robert “Dean” Taylor Jr. (Jennifer Taylor), Michelle Kathryn Gilbert (Kurtis Gilbert), Danielle Marie Lundberg (Grant Lundberg), Chantelle Renee Messersmith, Avrielle Nicole Roth (Mark Roth), and Jared Read Taylor (Amanda Taylor); as well as 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and loved ones. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Kathryn Dowlin; her stepmother, Joan Dowlin; her brother, Buddy Dowlin; her sister-in-law, Jo Ann Dowlin; and her grandson, Robert Taylor III.
Her family and friends will deeply miss Jan, but she will forever be cherished in their hearts.
