James Fletcher Larsen, age 87, passed away on October 30, 2026, in Spanish Fork, Utah. He was born on February 25, 1939, in Price, Utah, to Norman Larsen and Ethel Eunice Fletcher.
On February 19, 1959, James married the love of his life, Peggy Balzly, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, family, and countless cherished memories. Throughout their 67 years of marriage, they shared life's adventures, raised their family, and created a lasting legacy that will continue for generations.
Throughout his working years, James was employed at the Del Monte Packing Plant in Spanish Fork, Utah, as well as Neeley Surveying and L3 Communications. He dedicated many years to working and providing for his family.
James had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending his time fly fishing, tying his own flies, hunting birds, and shooting trap. He especially enjoyed camping, riding ATVs, and traveling to Yellowstone, where he could appreciate the beauty of nature and the adventures that came with it. These activities brought him happiness and provided many opportunities to create lasting memories.
James also had a passion for sports and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He spent time coaching Pony League baseball and church basketball, making a difference in the lives of the young people he coached. Whether on the baseball diamond or basketball court, he enjoyed being involved and encouraging others.
Music was another important part of James's life. He enjoyed singing as a member of the Spanish Fork Chorale, sharing his voice and love of music with the community. He also took great pride in his home and yard. He loved planting flowers, caring for his landscaping, and making sure his yard looked beautiful.
James could be a little gruff around the edges, but underneath that tough exterior was a true teddy bear with a tender heart. Those who knew him best understood that behind his sometimes gruff demeanor was a man who cared deeply for the people in his life. He may not have always shown his softer side to everyone, but those fortunate enough to know him well knew the warmth and love he carried inside. That combination of toughness and tenderness was part of what made James so special and will be remembered fondly by those who loved him.
Above all, James's greatest legacy was his family. He is survived by his three daughters, DeeAnn Ore (Todd) of Payson, Utah; Marilyn Taylor (Shawn) of Santaquin, Utah; and Katie Garner of Spanish Fork, Utah. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy Balzly Larsen; his daughter, Sue Ann Nusink; his grandchildren, Weston Taylor and Alex Garner; and his siblings, Norman Dale Larsen and Carol Ann Castleton.
James will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his enjoyment of music and sports, his gruff exterior that hid a tender heart, and the many memories he created with those around him. His legacy will live on through his family and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Spanish Fork, Utah. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate James's life.
