Obituary

James Nielsen Creer “Jim”, age 69, of Spanish Fork, passed away on June 6, 2022 from complications of COPD. He passed peacefully surrounded by his children and siblings.

Jim was born on September 15, 1952 in Spanish Fork, UT to Joseph E. and Florence Ruth Nielsen Creer. He grew up in Spanish Fork and was a graduate of Spanish Fork High School, class of ’71. After graduation he served in the Army National Guard.

He married Lesley Sorensen (Nelson) in 1972 and they had daughter Emily in 1973. They were later divorced. Jim married Gaylene White in 1988 and they had son Bryce James. They later divorced but Gaylene remained Jim’s beloved life partner until his death.

Jim was a gifted metal worker at Creer Sheet Metal Works in Provo, UT, the business founded by his father Joseph in 1959. One of Jim’s favorite pastimes was dragging Main in Spanish Fork and was frequently seen driving his Volkswagen Bug, Chevy Camaro, or one of his many trucks. Jim was the quintessential “Tall, Dark, and Handsome” man. He was known for his Pendleton wool plaid shirts, Bay Rum cologne, cowboy boots, and fastidious grooming (he even ironed his blue jeans and white T-shirts!).

Jim was a quiet, unassuming person. He loved dogs, music, and had a great sense of humor. He was a bit mischievous! Jim was fiercely loyal to his friends. He dearly loved his children and was a proud grandpa. He adored his mother, and she adored him. Floss always said Jim had a
“heart of gold” and she was right. His tender heart was full to the brim of love for his family and friends and he expressed that love often. He will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his partner Gaylene, his children Emily (Richard) AhYou of Draper, Bryce (Jordan) Creer & grandchildren Penny Ruth and Neil Joseph of Spanish Fork, his stepson David Bingham, his siblings Robert (Margaret) Creer of Spanish Fork, Edward (Diane) Creer of Orem, Anita (Shirl) Stewart of Palmyra, Sally (Rollie) Walker of Idaho Falls, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Floss Creer, and granddaughter Iris K. Creer.

A memorial service will be held on June 13, 2022 at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork. Family and friends may gather for the viewing from 11:30-12:30. Service begins at 1:00 P.M.
