Obituary

Ivan Eugene (Gene) Colledge, 77, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at his home April 1, 2020, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Gene was born December 21, 1942, in American Fork, Utah, to Ivan and Fern Colledge.  He grew up in Pleasant Grove.  He was very active in sports including wrestling, football, and baseball.  He graduated Pleasant Grove High School in 1961 and later attended Southern Utah University and Brigham Young University.

Gene was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served a 2 ½-year mission to Stockholm Sweden.   He also served in multiple callings, including in the Bishopric and High Council.  He loved Scouting and had earned prestigious awards, including the Silver Beaver.  He served as Scout Master for many years, and really enjoyed helping many young men earn their Eagle Scout.  He loved scout camps and being able to attend the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia.

Gene worked at various jobs, including Geneva Steel, Brigham Young University, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and most recently, the bakery at Spanish Fork Maceys (which he loved).

Gene was very active in the community.  He was involved in many sports programs including the little league wrestling in Spanish Fork.  He enjoyed running the Nebo Wrestling Tournament.  He enjoyed playing softball, tennis and golf.  He was a member of the PTA for many years.  Gene was the Lieutenant Governor of the Spanish Fork Kiwanis Club, where he particularly enjoyed the Terrific Kids program.  He loved serving.  He spent many hours helping in the Spanish Fork community.

Gene was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  One of his absolute favorite things was to go camping with his family.  Gene loved his family.  He loved family reunions, gatherings, cousin parties, and Sunday night card games.   He enjoyed making homemade ice cream and root beer for all and any celebration that brought his family together.

Gene had a great love for BYU Football.  He attended many games, with his family, over the years.  He always took the opportunity to attend their bowl games, whenever possible.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marilyn Newman Colledge; his children: Annette (Kathy) Franklin, Brian (Shelley) Goodnight, Scott (Kristi) Colledge, Kim (Brent) Cahoon, Shauna (David) Thurman, Shane Colledge, and Kenneth (Lalaina) Colledge.  Gene was the beloved grandfather to 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson.  He loved and adored his grandkids and would do everything and anything for them.  He is also survived by siblings: Carolyn, Craig, Brent, and Julie.  Gene is preceded in death by both his parents, a brother, Mark; and many relatives and friends.

The Colledge family would like to thank Dr. Esplin, Dr. Frandson, and Maple Creek Hospice for the great care they took of our dad.  We would especially like to thank Heather Lyman for the great care she provided him.

A visitation will be held Friday, April 3, 2020, at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  A small graveside service will be held for immediate family, following the visitation. Due to the current circumstances, a celebration of life will be held, at a later date.
