Obituary

With sorrow at a life taken too soon, yet with faith in Jesus Christ and the promise of eternal life, we announce the passing of Hyrum Louis Shell, who returned home to his Heavenly Father following a tragic motorcycle accident on the evening of May 10th 2026.

Hyrum Louis Shell was born on January 18, 1980, to his loving parents, Louis and Jill Shell. From the very beginning, Hyrum naturally stepped into the role of leader, example, and friend to his younger siblings, sharing with them a lifetime of memories, adventure, and unwavering love.

Relationships were the air he breathed. He carried a profound dedication to family, and had a unique gift for nurturing connections that endured across generations, distance, and time.

Hyrum was a man who loved his kids. Together with Andrea Armstrong he was blessed with 4 children, Benjamin, Bryant, Hannah and Hadley who became the greatest joy and purpose of his life.  He was overjoyed to become a grandfather to two precious grand babies who quickly captured his heart and brought him so much joy.

Later in life, Hyrum found love again with Linda Rubi Cutire Barboza, whom he married and was sealed to for eternity. Through that union, he was blessed to welcome Angelo into his heart and family, loving him as fully as his own son.

Hyrum’s life revolved around his love for people. He was a man who would pay attention to people’s stories and remember their names. He brought a fun positive energy that people were drawn to. Hyrum would meet you with his big voice and loud laugh followed by the most genuine of bear hugs. With a heart big enough to hold everyone inside, he made people feel loved seen and appreciated.

He was a proud alumnus of Spanish Fork High School, Class of ’98, where he lettered in cross-country for three years and was co-captain of the team his senior year. He also sang in the Madrigals choir. Throughout his life, he enjoyed being outdoors with family, riding four-wheelers, fishing, shooting, and camping. He loved basketball and had a talent for weightlifting. He won medals for deadlift competitions in his weight class.

He loved to watch sports and was a big BYU fan.

Hyrum was a man who knew and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and sought to follow Him in every way. In his youth he served faithfully in the Lima Peru North mission where he taught and baptized his future wife Linda.

He served in many church callings within the young mens’ and scouting organizations, as well as elder’s quorum presidencies.

His love knows no bounds. It is expansive, enduring, and woven deeply into the lives of all who knew him. We will honor him by loving so big and forgiving so easily.

Until we meet again. Please give some hugs from us to our folks in Heaven.

Hasta vernos con el Rey.

He is survived by his parents, Louis Clarance Shell and Jill Anderson Shell; his siblings, Heidi Pulham (Mark), Benjamin Clarance Shell (Jen), and Bethanie Shell; his wife, Linda Rubi Cutire Barboza de Shell; his children, Benjamin Hyrum Shell, Bryant Leslie Shell (Abby), Hannah Ruby Diane Shell, and Hadley Julia Shell; his stepson, Angelo Shell; his grandchildren, Ryker Bryant Shell and Skylar Ann Shell; and his former wife and mother of his children, Andrea Armstrong Shell.
