Obituary

Our dear father, grandfather, and brother Harold Wayne Black, 85, returned to his heavenly home and reunited with his beloved celestial companion Phyllis on December 19, 2025, surrounded by his family in Payson, Utah. Wayne was born to Harold Marion and Alice Snell Black on July 13, 1940, in Spanish Fork, Utah and was the oldest of eight children. He graduated from Payson High School and completed Utah Technical College’s machinist program.

Wayne served with honors in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era. He met Phyllis Holley during his service, and they were married during his military leave on March 5, 1961. Wayne and Phyllis were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple and were blessed with four children: Brenda, Bryan, Branden, and Brad.

He worked hard to support his family and was employed by Valtek Incorporated, now named Flowserve, for 30 years before retiring. Wayne loved spending time with family. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and cherished family gatherings filled with love, laughter, and joy.

Wayne was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Phyllis served two missions together in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Mission, and Salt Lake City Intercity Mission. He enjoyed serving as a temple worker for many years along with Phyllis in both the Payson and Provo Temples.

Wayne is survived by his children: Brenda (Rick) Rowley of West Mountain, Utah, Bryan (Melissa) Black of Genola, Utah, Branden (Jodi) Black of Santaquin, Utah, and Brad (Brenda) Black of Salem, Utah; 20 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Patricia (Randy) Huff, Carol (Roger) Ewell, and Darlene Pugh. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, brothers Phillip, Paul, Keith, and James Black, and granddaughter Shalese Black.
