Obituary

Guy J. Wymore was born December 8, 1944 in Payson, Utah to Carl H. Wymore and Venice C. Lundell. He married Roberta L. Lederer in the Los Angeles, California Temple on January 31, 1969. That marriage did not last, but in later years they became good friends. He married Joy H. Cox in the Provo, Utah Temple on December 18, 1975. He is survived by his immediate family: Sons, Jonathan (Nicole) and their 4 sons, Grayson, Jesse, Logan, and Maverick; and David (and 3 children). Guy was one of the older members of a very large, blended/extended family, a total of 18 family members, 9 still living. He will be greatly missed by many to whom he gave service: his former wife Joy, sons, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Guy’s life was an example of continually striving for excellence, much of which was filled with service to others in art and music. In 1965, as a North Argentine LDS Missionary, he arranged by hand, more than 20 classic songs for “Los Mormon Boys”, a twelve member traveling show band which performed live for approximately 6 million people. (see internet video: los mormon boys a musical mission) Later, as a 1970 Vietnam War Draftee, his ability in music was recognized when he was offered faculty, as a brass specialist, in the U.S. Military School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. Thereafter, for many years playing trombone, flugelhorn, and keyboard bass, he directed different versions of his own jazz band. He continued playing his trombone and performing in various bands well in his golden years.

Guy’s educational background was extensive: BA and MFA Degrees in Art & Design from BYU, Diploma in Interior Design from La Salle Extension University, Diploma in Sales and Marketing from STI, and Utah ARL Teaching Certification from SLCC. His wide background in art and education classes opened the way for him to teach a great variety of art and design classes at BYU, UVU, and two Charter High Schools. Guy’s experience in many art subjects resulted in his earning one of the highest scores in the 2009 National Art Praxis Test. His life in the arts and related subjects can be summarized by his ongoing involvement in fine art, commercial art, art history, marketing, graphic design, interior design, floristry, photography, architecture, and antique furniture restoration.

During his life, he served in many ecclesiastical callings which have included: ward choir director, instructor of ward youth and adult classes, bishopric member, stake seventy, stake historical clerk, and a joint area “grass roots” calling with his former wife, Joy. They served together four years as Just Serve Coordinating Council Specialists in the Tooele Valley Area. In the face of adversity, (no shortage of, he asserts) he maintained a strong testimony of the Savior and the Restored Gospel. As a self-acknowledged “very imperfect person”, he many times commented how well he identified with J. Golden Kimball’s take on life: “I have not always walked the straight and narrow, but I crossed it as often as I could”.
