Obituary

Gail Elaine Zimmerman Satteson, of Salem, Utah, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at the age of 86.
Gail was born on October 3, 1939, in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to Sterling Elias Zimmerman and Sarah Blanche Shaffer Zimmerman. She learned the value of hard work at a young age and carried that ethic with her throughout her years. Gail also became acquainted with grief early in life when her mother passed away, leaving her to face the world at just 14, an experience that shaped her resilience and compassion.
Gail had a lifelong love of learning and a deep desire to understand truth. Her spiritual curiosity guided her through many chapters of her life and ultimately led her to the faith that became central to her identity.
In 1972, Gail opened her door to two young missionaries. Soon after, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints along with her husband, George, and their family. This decision brought her profound purpose and direction. Her faith became a steady foundation, influencing the way she served, loved, and lived.
In 1976, Gail moved to Utah with her family, eventually settling in Salem, where she found a community that felt like home. She embraced the mountains, the culture, and the friendships that enriched her life for the next five decades.
Gail devoted much of her life to serving others through her many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She found deep joy in her years as a temple worker and cherished the quiet, sacred service she was able to offer there. Gail and her husband, George, were inseparable partners in both life and faith, sharing nearly every endeavor side by side. One of the most meaningful experiences they undertook together was serving a mission in Enugu, Nigeria, where they embraced the people, the culture, and the opportunity to share the gospel they both loved. Their time there strengthened their bond and became a treasured chapter in their shared journey.
Gail’s commitment to service extended beyond her church work and into her professional life. Her years working with special education and resource students at Payson Middle School were an expression of her compassion and her belief in the worth of every soul. She approached each child with Christlike love, offering encouragement, structure, and unwavering support. Her students flourished under her care, and many carried her influence with them long after leaving her classroom.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George, with whom she shared a lifetime of devotion and partnership. She was also preceded by her parents, Sterling and Sarah; her stepmother, Katherine; and her three brothers, Jack, Gordon, and Harold, whose names she passed on to two of her sons. In more recent years, she also mourned the passing of her daughter-in-law, Adrienne, whom she loved dearly.
Gail is survived by her four children: Abbe, Gordon (Walter), Casey (Tory), and Jack, who were the pride of her life. She was a devoted grandmother to Morgan (Cayden), Alyssa (Michael), Zachary (Amanda), Dylan (Kymber), Cheyenne (Carsen), and Luke (Lexie), and she delighted in her seven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. Her love for her family was constant and unwavering, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Gail will be remembered for her deep faith, her quiet strength, and the compassion she extended to everyone around her. Her legacy lives on in her family and in the many lives she touched through her service, her kindness, and her example.
