Obituary

Frances “Fran” Gonzales Sumsion, age 70, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 27, 1955, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Joe B. Gonzales and Rebecca Chacon Gonzales.
Fran grew up in Spanish Fork and later made her home in Santaquin, Utah. On July 17, 1975, she married Steve Sumsion in Las Vegas, Nevada, and together they welcomed their daughter, Cristi, who remained the joy of Fran’s life. Though Fran and Steve later divorced, they shared a deep love for their daughter. Steve preceded her in death.
A proud graduate of Spanish Fork High School, Fran spent many years working for Grand Central and Fred Meyer, where she was known for her dedication, warmth, and strong work ethic. She later worked as a merchandiser for Revlon, a role she truly enjoyed.
Fran loved the outdoors and embraced every opportunity to be outside—whether riding in a side-by-side, exploring new places, or simply enjoying the sunshine. She was a devoted snowbird who cherished her winters in Arizona. This past year was especially meaningful, as she was able to spend the winter with her sister Rose, a time that brought her immense joy.
Family was the heart of Fran’s world. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were her greatest treasures, and she loved every moment spent with them. She was a devout Catholic and lived her faith with quiet strength and deep devotion.
Fran is survived by her daughter, Cristi (Randy) Renshaw; her grandchildren, Haiden Reese of West Valley and Macie Mott (Korbin) of Santaquin; and her beloved great-granddaughter, Aspyn. She is also survived by her siblings Bernie Gonzales, Jake Gonzales, Anita (Kelly) Stika, Jessie (Paul) Bruce, and Rose Martinez; her sister-in-law Ann Gonzales; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Floyd Gonzales and Danny Gonzales; and her former husband Steve Sumsion.
A viewing will be held in Fran’s honor on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, located at 187 South Main St., Spanish Fork, Utah. A rosary service will be offered immediately afterward for all who wish to join in prayer.
An additional viewing will be held the following day, Friday, March 27, 2026, from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m., and then the graveside service will be held at Spanish Fork City Cemetery on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
Fran will be remembered for her kindness, her adventurous spirit, her deep love for her family, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Her presence will be profoundly missed, and her memory will forever be a blessing.
