Obituary

Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Olson Davies, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and daughter of God, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on June 13, 2022, after a short battle with liver cancer.

Beth was born July 11, 1939, in Rupert, Idaho to Henry Melin and Mary Helen Snow Olson. She was the youngest of four children.
Beth’s mother passed away when she was 2 years old. The children went to live with their maternal grandparents on a farm in Idaho while their father went out of town for work to provide for his family. This is where she learned the joy of living on a farm in the country.

When Beth was 6 years old, her father married Verna Buck and they moved from Idaho to their new home in Washington Terrace, Ogden, Utah. Verna brought two children to this marriage, Jeanette and Eugene. After graduating from Weber High School, Beth moved to California to help her sister, Helen, with her children while her husband was deployed to Guam.

While in California, Beth met her future husband, Pete Davies. They were married on April 17, 1959, and were later sealed as an eternal family in the Los Angeles Temple on March 17, 1962. While Pete and Beth were living in California, they added two boys to their family, Pete, and Lynn. After Pete completed his military service in the Air Force, they moved their family back to Utah, where their remaining six children were added to their family: Lisa, Lance, Leslie, Lori, Daryl, and Teressa. With their family complete, Beth went about making good use of her time and talents in serving and loving her family, friends, church, and community.

Beth had a deep testimony and abiding faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including Relief Society president, Relief Society teacher, visiting teacher, ministering sister, MIA President, MIA teacher, Primary teacher, Nursery worker, and ward librarian.

Due to Beth’s extensive Pioneer ancestry, she was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and served in different leadership roles in that organization.

Being a Temple Worker in the Manti Temple was the highlight of her life. She absolutely loved her 15 years of serving there two days a week and cherished the many friendships she gained through her service there. She would jokingly say that the Manti Temple was the only “true and living” temple. Beth was not afraid of hard work and taught this to her children. They always had a large garden and farm animals to help provide for their needs.

Beth found joy in being a stay-at-home mother; cooking, baking bread, sewing, making quilts, embroidery, and crafts of all varieties. She loved to find a deal at garage sales and loved to collect chickens of all varieties to decorate her home. Beth loved to read and always had the scriptures or a good book close at hand. She also liked to work on crossword puzzles, word searches, puzzles, etc. to keep her mind active and engaged. Beth had many friends, but especially cherished her Thursday lunch and shopping trips with her lifelong friend, Sharlene Stulce.

Beth is survived by her husband, Pete Davies, and her 8 children: Pete (Cathy) Davies, Lynn (Bonnie) Davies, Lisa (Brent) Shelby, Lance (Mindy) Davies, Leslie (Kevin) Bradshaw, Lori (Ray) Gifford, Daryl (Andrea) Davies, Teressa (Ben) Murie; 40 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. Also by sibling, Doug Olson. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Middleton; brother, Milt Olson; stepsiblings, Jeanette Barnes and Eugene Buck; and grandson, Dallin Bradshaw.
