Obituary

Doris Mary Downey Marshall, our sweet loving wife, mom, grandma and aunt passed away at the age of 78 on July 8, 2020 with her sweet husband by her side, after a prolonged valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Doris was born in Park City, Utah on March 22, 1942, to Dennis Lundholm Downey and Doris Shepherd Downey.  She attended Elementary School in Santaquin and Benjamin Utah. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School where she also met her sweetheart, Vernon Heber Marshall.  Doris and Vernon were married on March 24, 1961 in Benjamin Utah, they were later sealed on July 2, 1964 in the Manti, Utah Temple.  Together they raised their five children, SueAnn, Jed, Melanie, Angie and Amberlee in Benjamin.  While nurturing her family, she also worked outside the home at First Security Bank in Payson, as a School Lunch Worker, at McDonald’s in both Spanish Fork and Payson, Johnson’s Country Store in Benjamin, and in the office of Dr. Richard Johnson Dental , in Spanish Fork.  She was working at Spanish Fork Macey’s Grocery Store up until February 2019 when she had to retire due to worsening of her pulmonary disease.  She loved meeting people, touched many lives and made many lifelong friendships everywhere she went.  She was always a hard worker both inside and outside of the home serving her family, friends, and everyone she met throughout her life.  Doris was always able to brighten everyone’s day with her smile and Christlike love for everyone.

She was a self-taught talented organist, she loved to read, play solitaire, cross-stitch, and loved to go camping with her husband, children and grandchildren.  She was a loyal supporter of her family in their many activities, and was faithful as a mother-helper/PTA in the Schools.

Doris is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She has a strong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and His Gospel.  She always shared her Christlike love and example by serving diligently as Relief Society President, Young Womens President, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, and many more callings that she was given.  Her love for serving continued as she served her mission with her sweet husband at the Springville Employment Resource Center, for 16 months.  She loved serving in the Provo and Payson Temples for the past six years, up until her health would no longer allow her to do so.  Although she was unable to continue to go out and serve , she faithfully continued to lead by example, shown through her love, endless caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.  She taught her children the value of the gospel, family unity, unconditional love, the importance of hard work, and her love for Jesus Christ.  She never let her family go without both temporally and spiritually even through her last moments with us.  She was lovingly ready to continue her eternal service alongside those whom she loved and missed so dearly, and is now reunited with.

She is survived by her sweetheart, Vernon; four daughters and one son:  SueAnn (Chris) Ludlow, Jed Vernon (Lindsey) Marshall, Melanie Kay (Derek) Dalton, Angie Marie (Scott) Adamson, and Amberlee (Justen) Padgett.  She leaves behind 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whom she loved deeply.  She is also survived by her siblings:  Jim Downey, Betty (Clifford) Cartwright, Doug Downey, and brother-in-law:  Duane Curtis.  Doris is preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law; siblings and sisters-in-law: Lawrence Maurice (Hazel) Downey, Russell (Anna Mae) Downey, Ned (Carol) Downey, Patsy Curtis, Margie Downey, and Merle Downey.  Also predeceased by grandson Blake Christian Ludlow.
