Doris K
Giles
Jul 17, 1937 — May 24, 2020
Doris Kathleen (Catten) Giles left us on May 24, 2020, in Payson, Utah, due to complications from hip surgery.
Doris was born in Magna, Utah, on July 17, 1937. She was the sixth of nine children. She married Richard Quin Corbridge, raised three children, then later married Roy Monroe Giles, Jr., who had two grown children.
Doris grew up in Magna, Utah, where she graduated from Cyprus High School, and served as student body secretary. She graduated from cosmetology school and worked in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, as a cosmetologist. She worked as a sales associate for JC Penney in the early 1980s. At the same time, Doris attended classes at Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa, CA, and Chaffrey College in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, to learn to use computers. Doris put her computer skills to work as a secretary and staff assistant for the Lockheed-Martin Aircraft Company, from March 1987 to July 1998, at which time she took an early retirement opportunity.
She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the ward Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women programs. In the Washington DC area, she also served as a Stake Young Women President and as a temple worker.
When her family was young and growing up, she devoted her life to her children. She loved being a mother, but also found the time to serve others in whatever way she could. She loved taking road trips with her husband, Roy, her brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Marva Catten, and sister, Miriam and brother-in-law, Al Cole. Genealogy was one of her favorite things. It took her to far away places, like England, Ireland, and locations across the U.S. Family was her greatest treasure. She enjoyed being involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sports. Her great-grandchildren brought her much joy.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Monroe Giles, Jr.; her children: Chris and David Hodges, Louis Quin and Debbie Corbridge, Richard and Elaine Corbridge, Sonja Fife, and Monroe and Denise Giles; her grandchildren: Matthew Quin and Julia, Rachel and Dain, Derek and Jessica, Micah and Marjorie, Addie and Philip, Louis Quin and Victoria, Casey, Sam and Hollie, Seth, Joe, Jenna, Parker, Austin, Davis, and Preston; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mollie Catten, and by her siblings: Gene Catten, Joan Anderson, Lois Hughes, Dennis Catten, and Raymond Catten.
There will be a visitation, for family only, on Friday, May 29, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah 84660. Following the family visitation, Doris will be interred at Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park, Bluffdale, Utah at 3:00 p.m.
