Obituary

Dixon Cloward Bringhurst, loving husband, father, Papa, brother, son, uncle and friend passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the young age of 63 surrounded by his family. Dixon spent the last ten years battling Alzheimer’s.

He was born on June 18, 1957, to Mart and Janice Bringhurst in Springville Utah. He was the 4th of 5 children beating his identical twin into the world by 15 minutes. Dixon had a happy childhood growing up spending his time on the family ranches in Birdseye Utah, and Wells Nevada. He attended Springville High School where he played tennis and football.

After High School Dixon married the love of his life, Bonnie Houtz, on August 12, 1977, in Mapleton Utah. They were later sealed in the Provo City Center Temple. They are the proud parents of 3 children and grandparents to 12 grandchildren. He loved his family more than anything and considered them his greatest accomplishment.

Dixon spent 37 years devoted to his job at Geneva Rock, where he ran the asphalt plant and later supervised multiple gravel pits. When he wasn’t hard at work he could be found at his grandkids sporting events and performances. He was no doubt their number one fan. Dixon loved the outdoors and found a lot of joy and solace riding his horses, hunting geese in the desert, or going on morning drives with his friends.

Dixon is survived by his wife Bonnie, children Phillip (Heather Gardner) Bringhurst of Spanish Fork, Candace (Willie) Finch of Cedar Hills, and Mckel (Mark) Barney of Spanish Fork, and 12 adoring grandchildren. He also leaves behind four siblings, sister Shonie Thompson, brother Kenny Bringhurst, sister Laurie Thorn, and identical twin brother Rick Bringhurst, and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Mart and Janice Bringhurst, and father-in-law Lynn Houtz.

A graveside service will be held Friday, March 19, 2021, at 2 o’clock, at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life held at 4 o’clock at Annie’s Acres in Spanish Fork. Dixon left us much too soon but his legacy will live on in his kids and grandchildren. He loved fiercely and anyone who knew him could feel that. Way to huss Papa!
