Deann Johnson
Sandage
Jun 17, 1948 — Dec 8, 2021
Deann Johnson Sandage, age 73 of Spanish Fork, Utah passed away on the 8 th of December, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Deann was born in Provo, Utah on the 17 th of June, 1948 to Elmer Heber and Vivian Gull Johnson.
Deann was raised in Spanish Fork. One of the highlights of her life was when her parents were able to adopt her baby sister Denise. Though they were eight years apart in age, they have always had a special bond.
The summer after graduating from Spanish Fork High School, she worked at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park as a cabin maid. This was one of the most memorable times of her life. She has a special place in her heart for the Grand Canyon and she had plans to visit again next spring.
Soon after she returned from Grand Canyon, she married her navy pen pal, Fred Sandage. She and Fred were blessed with three children. They lived in Mesa, Arizona during their early married years and she and Fred both worked for Motorola. The family made a brief move to Fargo, North Dakota (we only stayed 3 months!), and finally settled in Spanish Fork, Utah. She retired from Nebo School District office after working there for more than 25 years.
She loved being outdoors, especially going camping with her parents, and fishing with her dad. She had an immense love for nature and could watch the trees and water for hours. She also loved watching building and construction in action. She would visit the construction site of her current home in Spanish Fork to watch it being built. Then later when her sons, son-in-law and grandsons remodeled, renovated, or landscaped, she loved to watch and make suggestions.
She spent hundreds of hours doing family history work and traveling to get historical data. She was proud of her Norwegian and pioneer heritage. She was currently volunteering at the Daughters of Utah Pioneers museum in Spanish Fork. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in her many callings.
Survived by her children Fred Jr (Anji) Sandage of Taylorsville, Kim (Jarom) Seaich of St George, Rick (Kristy) Sandage of Elk Ridge. Sister Denise (Roland) Snyder of Alpine. Stepmother, Marilyn Johnson and her children, of South Jordan. Sister-in-law Sue (JayDee) Raile of Mesa, Arizona. She is grandma to 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Fred Sandage Sr., her parents Elmer and Vivian Johnson, and parents-in-law Jake and Lucile Sandage.
A viewing will be held in the LDS chapel at 585 North Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah on Saturday, December 18 th from 9:00 – 10:30 prior to funeral services at 11:00. Funeral services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Deann’s friends, coworkers, neighbors, and many relatives for their impact on her life.
