David Dalynn
Brooks
Jun 4, 1954 — Oct 5, 2025
David DaLynn Brooks, 71, passed away on October 5, 2025. Born June 4, 1954, in Shelley, Idaho, to William Wrenn Brooks and Edna June Sessions, David lived a life marked by his love for his family and friends. He was always quick to offer a friendly “Hello.”
Dave’s childhood took him across the rugged beauty of Idaho, Alaska, and Oregon. Whether working on the ranch, hunting in the wild, or taking on challenges head-first, he developed a tenacity and resilience that would define his life. David was a tough and talented wrestler through high school and went on to wrestle at Brigham Young University, where he also earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
David served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Southern States Mission, where he shared his testimony with the people of Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama.
On May 14, 1977, David married the “joy of his life,” Patti, in the Washington D.C. Temple. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family.
Dave dedicated over 38 years to educating and mentoring youth, particularly those in state’s custody. As a teacher, administrator, and coach at Spanish Fork High School and later Cornerstone and Landmark programs, he shaped the lives of countless students with his steady leadership, advocacy, and always having a way of seeing a student’s potential even if they could not. His impact extended far beyond the classroom and into the hearts of those he served.
He later earned a Master’s Degree in Education with an Administrative Endorsement from Southern Utah University, further enhancing his ability to lead and support his students and staff.
His greatest joy was always found in time spent with his family. He cherished his wife, Patti, and they enjoyed their life and devotion to each other. He was involved and supported his kids and grandkids in their many activities and often had useful advice to share.
Music was a lifelong love. He found joy in playing his many guitars and sharing that music with family and friends. Dave developed a love for pickleball, embracing the sport with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything. His competitive spirit shone through in his game and was known for his formidable, hard-to-return serve. He treasured time outdoors including, camping, hunting, and traveling to new places, especially with his wife.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, and their children: Trevor (Cherri) Brooks, Aubree Brooks, Tasha (Bryce) Lewis, and Justin (Amber) Brooks. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Kyler, Azure, and Zander Brooks; Jared and Conner Lewis; and Brylee, Kanyon, and Kolter Brooks. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna, and by his siblings Ann, June, Gloria, Linda, and Sandee.
David leaves behind a legacy of strength, service, and love. He will be remembered for his dedication to youth, his passion for teaching and coaching, his love of music and sports, and his devotion to his family and faith.
