Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, David Einer Balzly, on August 21, 2025. He was recovering from a stroke and multiple heart attacks that he suffered in July. He was surrounded by his loved ones as he passed peacefully from complications of a stroke.

David was born on September 28, 1962, in Payson, Utah, to Merril Layne Balzly and Myrtis Jacobs. He was raised in Payson, Utah and was known and loved by many friends. After graduating high school, he went to trade school and became a Boilermaker and joined the Boilermakers Local Union 182 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In January 1990, David married Sherriann Shelley and over the course of 10 years, they had three children: Killian, Devan, and Bree. David had many passions in life and foremost loved his children dearly. He loved fishing and camping and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He was blessed with a fourth child, Andy.

In July 2025, he took his oldest grandchildren, Peyton and Myles, on their first camping trip. He also spent a week with all three grandchildren and took them fishing at Schofield Lake and Salem Pond; it was his youngest granddaughter Sinon’s first fishing trip.

David loved nature and everything in it; he tried to teach his children and grandchildren to always leave your camping spot or fishing spot cleaner than you found it. He was sad to see the beauty of nature being trashed by garbage that people left behind. When David lived in Wyoming, he frequently fished at the Flaming Gorge with his late father and brothers. He went on hunting trips to get meat for the cold winter months, and he believed in not wasting nature’s gifts. David also loved music; music always made it better. He often could be seen around and about town listening to his favorite jams.

He is survived by his children: Killian Gage Balzly (Shani) of Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Devan Einer Balzly (Stephanie) of Brooksville, Florida; Breeafton Vallejo Balzly of Brooksville, Florida; and Andy Kyle Oram of Salt Lake City, Utah.  He is also survived by his grandchildren: Peyton Balzly, Myles Balzly, and Sinon Seabury. Additionally, survived by his mother, Myrtis Jacobs McCormack, Bayfield Colorado; his two eldest brothers, Kyle Balzly and Edward Balzly, of Greenriver, Wyoming; his two sisters, Stephni Balzly and Anna Balzly of Bayfield, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father, Merril Layne Balzly (2017); and his brother, Darris Mark Balzly (2019).

David will be missed dearly by all those who loved him. He truly believed in the goodness of people and would help anyone who needed it in a heartbeat.
