Obituary

Cynthia LaRee Stuart Howland, our loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in Springville, Utah.  LaRee was born December 22, 1929 in Missoula, Montana to John H. and Mary Janetta McBride Stuart.  Her mother passed away when she was only six years old and she was raised by her father and sisters. She grew up in Montana and Cache Valley, Utah and she graduated from South Cache High School in 1947.

LaRee married Gene Lee Howland on January 18, 1951 in the Logan Utah Temple.  She supported her husband during his service in the U.S. Army. They were blessed with eight children.  Her family brought her much joy and she was a devoted wife and mother.

She worked as a waitress at the Blue Bird Café, as a Quality Control Supervisor at Signetics, and as a Sales Associate for JC Penney for approximately 15 years.

LaRee enjoyed reading, crocheting, making hats and quilts for Humanitarian Service, and caring for others.  Serving others was her life.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LaRee served valiantly in many capacities throughout her life.  She served two missions in her later years, first to the Georgia Atlanta Mission, which was divided, so she finished in the Macon Georgia Mission, serving from April, 1990 – April, 1991.  She then served in the Canada Vancouver Mission from October, 1992 – October, 1993.

LaRee is survived by her children, David Gene (Sherry) Howland, of South Jordan, UT; Michael Lee (Tamara) Howland, of Aurora, UT; Cynthia Ann (Gary) Foote, of Springville, UT; Gene Lee (Dana) Howland, II, of Spanish Fork, UT; Elizabeth Karen Monaghan, of Denver, CO; Lawrence Robert (Rhonda) Howland, of Shelby, MI; Leslie Charles (Hue) Howland, of Tigard, OR; and April LaRee (Shawn) Hone, of West Jordan, UT.  She also leaves behind 30 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy (Stan) Hall, of Provo, Utah; and a brother-in-law, L. Kay Howland, of Murray, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene Lee Howland; and siblings, Alvin Stuart, Jack Stuart, Ruby Bradshaw, Phyllis Wight, Rosealee Stuart, Nettie Kidman, and Faye Howell.
