Obituary

Mary “Colleen” Lewis Huff passed away surrounded by family on June 28, 2020.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Lewis; her husband, Marlin Huff; her son, Brian Huff; and her sister, Bobbi Robertson.  Her family has been comforted with peace, thinking of her reunion with her family that passed away before her.

She was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on October 4, 1937, to Robert Samuel Lewis and Ruth Mae Higginson.  She was the oldest of three daughters and grew up in several places, including Twin Falls, Kanab and Benjamin.  While living in Benjamin, Utah, and attending Spanish Fork High School, she met the love of her life, who would later become her husband.  Marlin Emery Huff and Colleen were married on November 14, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple.  Together they had eight children, who grew up under their example and unconditional love.  During the time she was raising her family, she also worked as a Reading Technician at Park Elementary School.  She loved nurturing young minds and watching them grow.

She served in many capacities during her life for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served as a Ward Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society President, Ward Young Women President and taught in many auxiliaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She also spent time as a Scout Leader and was serving as a Primary teacher when she passed away.  She served two missions, with one in Utica, New York, and the other at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.  She also spent many years serving in the Provo Temple as a temple worker, and loved serving there.  She loved reading, indexing, studying the gospel of Jesus Christ and attending religion classes at BYU.

She has been active all of her life and enjoyed attending many events in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Family has always been very important to her.  She attended many ballgames, plays, dance recitals, wrestling matches and events of her posterity.  Family reunions, playing games and attending movies all brought her joy and happiness.  She loved celebrating holidays and remembering birthdays with family – this is no small feat, with 131 family members to remember.  That number is ever increasing with three more great-grandchildren expected before the end of the year.  One of her greatest capacities was her ability to love others.  She demonstrated this by remembering the special events, including making quilts for new babies in the family.  Her ability to love and serve others was not limited to family, as she also did the same with the various groups and organizations where she was a member.  She was a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a member of Red Hats.  She enjoyed club with her friends.

She is survived by six daughters and one son: Michelle (Ron) Story, Jana Russell, Lorie (Russell) Graham, Melinda (Lance) Davies, Kathryn (Neal) Hatfield, Kimberly (Daniel) Hoschouer, and Bradly (Becci) Huff.  She is also survived by one sister, Vicki (Craig) Ovard.   She has 39 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, whom she loved.

A public viewing will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2020, from 5– 7 p.m. open for all to attend, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 1006 E 200 S in Spanish Fork, Utah.  Funeral services, limited to family only, due to Covid restrictions will be held on Monday, July 6, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the church.  Burial will follow at the Benjamin Cemetery, at around 1 p.m. and is open to any who would like to attend.

A live stream of the funeral can be viewed by Zoom.
