Obituary

Christie Johanna Sorensen Atwood passed away peacefully at her home on December 10, 2018. We like to believe that in passing she was greeted by her husband George Douglas Atwood, son Ronald Atwood, granddaughter Sydney Thomas, her parents and 7 siblings.

Christie was born Aug. 7, 1926 in Central, Utah to Christian Muller Sorensen and Netta Magdalena Christiansen. The Sorenson family of 9 brothers and 2 sisters eventually made their home in Mapleton. Christie loved to tell stories of the Mapleton family home and the adventures of caring for the family orchards.

Mapleton is where Christie met and married her lifetime sweetheart, Doug Atwood in 1945. Soon after as a young couple, they made their home in Tacoma, Washington where Doug was serving in the Army. When they returned to Utah they settled in Spanish Fork, Utah. Together they raised two sons, Ronald and Deuard Atwood.

Christie served the community in her chosen occupation of cook at numerous Spanish Fork restaurants. She also served in establishing the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum and held the position of President. For over 40 years Christie served as an election clerk at the local voting polls. She also actively served in the LDS Church. Caregiver was a role Christie generously gave to her brother David Sorenson, her parents and Doug’s parents.

Christie is survived by Deuard and Sheila Atwood, Robin Atwood, Utahnna and Charles Summerhayes, Dolan and Cheryl Sorensen, Val and Peggy Sorensen, Heath Atwood, Bret Atwood, Camille Christensen, Alison and Chris Blackmon. She is loved by 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday Dec. 17, 2018 at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork. The mortuary will also provide viewing services on Sunday Dec. 16th from 6 to 8 pm and 1 hr. prior to the service.

We would like to thank all of Christie’s adopted daughters from Maple Creek Hospice. We appreciate your tender care and service. You have made her passing of old age a graceful and loving event.

A big thank you to the crew from Meals on Wheels for your joyous companionship. And a special thank you to Utahnna and Charles Summerhayes for your dedication and love.
