Carma Reynolds
Herbert
Jun 9, 1938 — Aug 20, 2025
Carma Reynolds Herbert, 87 died peacefully at her home in Payson, Utah, of natural causes. She was born on June 9, 1938, in Payson, Utah. She was the daughter of Cyril (Cy) Nephi Reynolds and Chrystal Curtis Reynolds.
Carma was a lifelong resident of Payson, Utah. She attended school in Payson and graduated from Payson High School. She married her sweetheart Gearld (Gary) Herbert in Payson, Utah on August 28, 1959. They were later sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple on May 12, 1964. They were married for sixty-six years and raised three children, Valerie, Richard, and Brennen.
Carma worked at Grants Department Store in Provo, Utah as a Financial Clerk. She chose to stop working to raise her children and later returned to work when her children were older. She was a Teacher’s Aide at Peteetneet Elementary School in Payson, Utah. Following that she worked as a Teacher’s Aide in the Chapter One Program at Barnett School in Payson, Utah. As an avid reader herself, she dearly loved helping struggling readers improve their reading skills and develop a love for reading.
While her children were in school, she was always involved as a Room Mother and held various positions in the PTA. She was a member of the Payson Fire Fighters Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Payson, Utah for many years. She was a member of Camp Seagull of The Daughters of The Utah Pioneers (DUP), in Payson, Utah. She was currently serving as Registrar. As her mobility declined the meetings were held in her home. She loved the DUP and loved learning about Pioneer history.
Carma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a Primary President, Young Women’s President and Relief Society Counselor as well as many other callings over the years. She served as a Ward Librarian for many years and loved this because she was able to hear Primary Children singing each week. She was a faithful Visiting Teacher and Ministering Sister throughout her life.
Carma had many hobbies and talents. She loved reading and probably owns more books than the library! She loved reading books to her children and grandchildren. She also loved sewing, and she was a fabulous cook. She loved baking and decorating cakes for her family and friends. She loved spending time with her family. They went on family vacations and camping trips, and she always had a new food idea to try, like tin foil dinners or banana boats. She helped create many great memories from these trips. She loved hunting for rocks and collecting them for her yard and garden. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to make friends. She made friends everywhere she went, and she always knew her neighbors. She loved them and they loved her. She had many who considered her a second mom or called her grandma.
Carma is survived by her husband Gary Herbert and three children: Valerie and Rick Jackson of Rancho Cordova, CA, Richard and Brenda Herbert of Springville, UT, and Brennen and Kala (Black) Herbert of Delta, UT. One brother Vear Reynolds of Payson, UT, and one sister Regi Hendricks of Missouri. Six grandchildren, Curtis, Emily, Spencer, Shane, Rylan, and Conner and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law.
