Obituary

Bobbie Lu Christensen, born Roberta Lucetta, passed away on January 13, 2024, at the age of 85. Bobbie Lu was born to Robert Burdette and Eunice Lucille Burkitt Ackley May 7, 1938, in Kalamazoo, Michigan and was one of five children. Her family moved to Syracuse, New York where she and her siblings were raised.

She married John Morley Christensen May 5, 1958, in Syracuse, New York and two days later they were sealed for time and all eternity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Salt Lake, Utah Temple. She and John were blessed with five children. In 2000, Bobbie Lu and John moved to Payson, Utah, where they helped raise their Havens grandchildren.

Bobbie Lu’s passion for education was a cornerstone of her life. In 1955, she graduated from Syracuse Central High School in New York and in 1985 she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from North Arizona University. She spent 13 fulfilling years nurturing young minds as an elementary school teacher for Sapulpa Public Schools in Oklahoma. Her hobbies were diverse, and she enjoyed woodworking, sewing, and gardening. She loved cooking, and often showed her love for her family through food. Bobbie Lu diligently worked on family history. She had a unique ability to turn her hand to any task. She loved to read and always encouraged her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to immerse themselves in the world of books. Bobbie Lu cherished spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Rachel, said she had the best laugh.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings over the years, including serving as a temple worker and serving a family history mission with her husband John.

Bobbie Lu is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, John Christensen, her children, Roy (Ramiel) Christensen, Amy (David) Thorne, Lisa (Russel) Havens, and Nathan (Heather) Christensen, and brothers David Ackley and Donald (Karen) Ackley. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Roberta was preceded in death by her son Eric Christensen, parents Robert and Eunice Ackley, brother William Ackley, and sister Dian Ackley.

Her family would like to thank the medical professionals who cared for Bobbie Lu with kindness and dignity at the end of her life, including the nurses, CNAs, and doctors who worked tirelessly to keep her comfortable.
