Betty June Mickulin
Ott
Jul 9, 1937 — Jan 31, 2019
Betty June Mickulin Ott passed away on January 31, 2019 surrounded by her family in Spanish Fork, Utah. She was born on July 9, 1937 in Preston, Idaho to Steve Donald and June Foster Mickulin. She attended school in Billings, Montana and later served a mission in the West Central States from 1959-1960. During her mission she traveled to Butte where she met Melvin Wilford Ott. After her mission, they courted and then married on January 10, 1961 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Melvin and Betty had six wonderful children and were married 46 years when he passed in 2007.
She was active in Kiwanis, The Butte Figure Skating Club, the Montana Tech Choir and served as local President of the Relief Society in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a day care for many years and became a second mom to many. She worked as a Typesetter and Office Manager for the Nickle Saver and Butte Weekly. Betty June was well known as “Butte’s Recipe Lady” with her weekly publication of Betty’s Kitchen. She was an area representative for ASSE International Student Exchange Program and enjoyed meeting students from around the world. Butte was her home until 2005 when she and Mel moved to live with her daughter Jacquie and son in law Ken in Utah. She returned to Butte for a short time to work as a Den Mother for the Butte Central International Student Exchange Program. Betty June was able to spend her remaining years at home with her daughter, son in law, and grandchildren and joined the local senior center since being in the community and among friends was simply a part of her. The Nielson Family provided a loving wonderful home and were always there in her time of need.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be remembered for her loving spirit, endless kindness, and strong faith. Her love and giving nature were gifts she offered family, friends, and her community. Her sparkling eyes, beautiful smile, and contagious laugh always brighten the room and every goodbye ended in “love ya babe”. She filled her home with singing, dancing, home cooked meals, and most of all love. She enjoyed traveling to visit her family and friends especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought her great joy. She was an amazing woman and will forever be in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her.
She is survived by her children Jacquie (Ken) Nielson of Utah, Randy (Ruth) Ott of Wyoming, William “Bill” Ott and Michael (Tiffany) of Butte, Jeanette (Russ) Edwards of Oregon, and Katie (Roger) Cook of Oregon, 30 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren (one on the way). Surviving siblings include brothers Steve Mickulin Jr. (Corky), Ronald Mickulin, John Mickulin, and sister Renee Dean.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 9th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 2981 E 1660 S Spanish Fork, Utah. A viewing will take place at 9:00 am and funeral services will follow at 10:00 am. Dedication of her grave will be at the Sunset Cemetery on 1300 South East of Foothill.
